Reasons i love El Rio- - One of the best happy hours in the city. - The outdoor patio is WONDERFUL on nice days. - Fridays are free oysters AND free BBQ! - My dog Ellie is like a VIP over there. All the bartenders love her and give her treats all the time. - Because of El Rio, I consider myself a shuffle board PRO! - The crowd is always friendly and laid back. Thank you El Rio for all the wonderful times! Keep up the great work.

Maybe I'm a breakfast snob for giving this place three stars, but really, the coffee here is exceptionally expensive and the food is just decent, which is to say fairly mediocre. We came here with a friend who was visiting from out of town (Portland, Oregon, specifically, which is a town that knows how to make and eat some brunch, dear Philly amateurs), and immediately appreciated the industrial space. There's a lot of space between tables, high ceilings, and an open kitchen always feels good--although industrial admittedly isn't for everyone. Anyway, as mentioned in another review, the art was pretty unspectacular--but that's status quo for restaurants and coffee shops that show art, right? The service was passable. All this was fine. And the food wasn't bad, it just lacked panache and the coffee was really expensive. If we come to Cafe Lift again, it'll be because Carman's gone on vacation or because our car broke down right next to it and we're starving. This said, it's not the worst breakfast or brunch decision you could make in Philly. It wasn't bad--it just didn't blow us away like the Saint's Hash from the Cricket Cafe in Portland, which is the bar by which all breakfast dishes must be measured.

Cheap drinks and a backyard patio doth a 5 star make. I don't know why I didn't review this estab earlier on. Maybe I just took it for granted. This place also has (1) pool table (2) shuffleboard (3) pretty good jukebox selection. And a stage that bands play. The patio in back is pretty huge, i've even taken it a short film festival there, and they hold special events quite often. This place is good for the soul. This place is part of the triangle, that I include the argus and the K.O.
