by Johnny V. on My first rateclubs review. I've been a fan of Delux for a long time, love their haagan-daaz chocolate malts, burgers are great, fries have been decent. However, this time, my party of four witnessed something that should never happen at a restaurant. We sat down on the community table Sunday afternoon (today) and just as our drinks came, a 3-4 year old boy with two women was standing on the booth on the west wall... he wasn't looking too good, and threw up all over himself, the table, and the bench. Okay, kids get sick, he looked feverish and probably had the flu. I fully understand how things like this happen, and can't blame Delux for this. The mother got up, grabbed a towel, wiped up the mess - the staff didn't help, again probably a social thing, let the mom pick up and clean up afterwards. A server took the towel, put it somewhere behind the bar, and continued serving without washing her hands! Then the two women left with their child, and an employee set new silverware and cloth napkins on the table which was never sanitized and walked off, possibly with additional germs now going to the rest of the tables being set. UGH! Then a young man and his mother were seated at this unclean table, his mother went to the bathroom and I got up and told him what happened and told him he should probably move and also go scrub his hands and arms - I would want someone to do the same for me. They moved, and I went to the servers standing in the corner by the grill/computer and told them that they didn't even sanitize the table, etc., etc. The manager (I think) came up to me and confronted me - saying "did you tell them what happened!?" and giving me attitude... I told her in a nice way, "hey, wouldn't you want someone to tell you if you just sat at a table that wasn't cleaned after someone threw up all over it? you didn't even clean the table or the bench!" and she was a little quiet, I walked away, and could hear her talking to the other servers in disbelief. Finally, another server cleaned the table with a wet towel and no sanitizer - and we watched carefully - as she didn't go to the bathroom or a hand-sink, and then picked up an order and served it to a table... then another order, and another, and another - for the rest of our lunch she didn't wash her hands... I mean seriously, I would wash my hands regardless of the fact that I was serving other people. I think someone needs to train the staff, have a meeting over health regulations, sanitation, etc., etc. This is just now becoming peak flu season this year... and something like this simple incident can really spread like wildfire. We won't be going back to Delux, ever, because of this incident - too bad, cuz I long for those chocolate malts...
