by Miel H. on One of my fellow Rateclubers says that if you live in SF and haven't gone here that you should be ashamed of yourself. I took that advice to heart last night, 17Jan09. And you know what? She's so right. I took my customary walk around and immediately really loved the space. It is pretty dang big and yet stays cozy. Really. There is a small "fire place" and couches in the back, one pool table for the hustlers and girls with nice booties to show off and a very schweeet outdoor area for cooling down or talking. The bar is big and well staffed with the kind of bartenders that can take four different drink orders, make change, point to the bathroom and dance all at the same time. The dance floor is a wee small, but bumping into folks was fun my night. Everyone was all smiles. Coat check is $2, a well G&T was $6.50 and gets a 3 on my scale. Very nice pucker of G and just enough T to make the ice float to the top. Even packed, the bathrooms were kept flush with paper towels and TP and moved quick for only two stalls. Apparently from multiple sources, you have to pay attention to what night it is bc they are very diverse in their offerings and musical tastes. It also stays open all night long and after my experience last night, someday, I am gonna do just that. Thumbs UP, end UP!!
by Magan Zaffalon on I think I could make better mexican food myself, and I'm a terrible cook. The shrimp dish I had was just WAY too garlicky, even for my taste (I love garlic). The shrimp came on a bed of rice surrounded by sauce, which I tasted like was marinara sauce straight from the can. It was too salty and there was no flavor besides salt and garlic. The service was good. Waiter was nice and generally attentive. I also spilled my beer 2/3 of the way through and they just got me another one. Also, they have no special provisions for birthdays, so bring a cake for your birthday-friend. (although they will stick a candle in a desert for you if you order one) Also, way too expensive for the quality.
by Karlis B. on Visited here on a Sunday night with a group of about 15 people. The place is simple and elegant. I was pleasantly surprised. But then it went downhill. Food: Ok. It's still Americanized Chinese but healthier. I ordered the Beef, Spicy and Hot. It was beef, so 1 out of 3. I had to add spicy mustard to it to make it fit the description. Other people who ordered spicy food had the same problem. Quick note: you can order medium sized portions which is about half the regular portion. Our rude-ass waiter said it wouldn't be enough. He's lying and he tried to pressure me into it. It was plenty. Another note: most of the dishes do not include rice, you have to order separately, which is something a nice, good waiter would tell you. Service: RUDE. I think he got his panties in a twist when I INSISTED I just wanted the smaller portion. He also had this "I'm in kindergarten" thing going. When a friend asked if there was sugar for the coffee, he just replies "yes there is" and just stood there staring at us....and can you BRING IT TO THE TABLE? Conclusion: Food is alright, decor is quite nice, service is rude. Not in much of a rush to go here again.
