Went on a Friday night. I really wanted to like this place. And at first, I did. No cover and a nice space with good music. Unfortunately, that seems to be what they use to get you in the door. Because what awaits you inside, are rude inconsistent bartenders, a coat check line so long you will lose your buzz waiting, and an packed dancefloor that hardly makes the good music worth navigating the crowd of drunk guys spilling their drinks on you. This is basically how the night went... 1. Coat check line is so long downstairs, there were at least 20 people in line and it was barely moving. I get it, it's snowing and everyone needs to check coats. PROBLEM: there is a coatcheck upstairs and racks of empty hangers AND a guy in there, and when people saw him and started lining up, finally announces after ignoring everyone for a few miniutes, "oh go downstairs." We decided to leave our jackets on the booth near the brick wall (yes, I know that was dumb, because my jacket got stolen) 2. Drinks can be strong, and pretty tasty (meaning you can actually taste the alcohol). PROBLEM: the first time I ordered drinks from one bartender, I got a Ketel Soda and Ketel Redbull. That was $28. Not a big deal, it's NY. Bartender tells me there is a $30 minimum for credit cards. Not a big deal either. I just order another drink and then he gives me attitude when I say I don't want to open a tab. I give him my credit card and get a receipt for $47. How did it go from $28 to $47 from adding one more drink? Kinda sketchy but decided to just walk away since we wanted to have a good time. Second time we go to get drinks, we order from a different bartender, but in the same pit (near upstairs entrance) and we get 3 drinks. It comes out to about $42. This bartender tells us the minmum is $50 for credit cards. What the hell? Wasn't it $30 like a half hour ago? So we order 2 more drinks. Then the total is $78. Im not that good at math, but I think that means 2 more drinks cost $36. Again, same situation, different bartender. Something is totally shady at this place. It seems like they are totally ripping people off. Most people who order multiple drinks aren't going to ask for a breakdown of how it added up to so much in front of everyone, so they just let it go, and they get away with overcharging. We were drunk, but not stupid. It seems like the management tells the bartenders to arbitrarily set a bar minimum each time you order so you just fall short of it, hoping you start a tab. But seeing how this place is run, I would never leave my credit card with them. You will probably end up with multiple drink orders that were't yours. Do yourself a favor and drink beforehand. Take a cab. Go in for free. If you get lucky, find a spot on the dancefloor and have a good time. Wait in line if you must check your coat cuz afer paying $50 for 3 drinks, I would want to steal someone's jacket too.

I went into Rosa Mexicana with an expectation of what was to come, and for the most part, my expectation paralleled my experience. My thought was that decor and looks would supersede the food, and for the most part, I was correct. However, I will say the food was mighty tasty, but I didn't feel that the pricing was at all representative of what one should get. I visited Rosa with a newcomer (like myself) and a patron of R.M. The patron said we HAD to get the guacamole. It's house-made table-side and served with chips, a warm batch of tortillas and red (I don't know what this was) and tomatillo salsa. I'm not a guac person, so I won't attempt to review it, but the red stuff is awesome. Everyone at the table disliked it, but I downed the tiny bowl it was served in. It's like smokey, spicy, ketchupy goodness. If anyone knows what this is, tell me! We were also informed by the patron that we must also get the pomegranate margaritas. Albeit girly, they were pretty damn good. The meal was good, but not great and portions were lacking. I got the Budin de Pollo. Again good, but not 17 dollars good. With an average price of $20 per entree, this place needs to throw more on the plate. Thank goodness for said patron's company expense account! They have a lot of interesting sounding items on the menu, it's just that I know if I go back, I'll leave hungry. I will give it to them - the waterfall wall with cliff jumpers is pretty cool. Ole!

What to say? What to say? Expensive, small portions (TINY TINY TINY), pushy servers, lots of attitude and worst of all THEY ALWAYS TRY TO CHEAT YOU. Last night we went in a party of 10. Waitress gives us attitude when some of us order tap water instead of sparkling. But EVERYONE ordered their cocktails and drinks ($$$). We waited for the other ppl to arrive and ordered our meals. Classic line was given: "Portions are small, everyone should order 2-3 dishes". This is despite the fact that most things are $15-25 per dish. We ordered quite a bit of food and it arrives SUPER slowly. They do this on purpose hoping that you will forget what you ordered and keep ordering more. But the worst thing is the CHEATING they try to pull. Our table (split into two) and BOTH sides were missing dishes / orders. Isolated incident? After reading the reviews it seems like standard practice for them to book some pure profit. I looked around and EVERY table around us with more than 4-5 people were having the same problem. If any company tried to pull this they would get in trouble, but it seems like Medjool tries to hide this fact by having their servers play dumb. I think its time for a Channel 5 investigation. Oh and BTW... their music sucks.
