This is a review of the Mayan as a CLUB and not a concert venue. Before my friends and I decided to go out, I rateclubs'ed this place and I was not let down at all. We went on a Saturday night and if you get there before 10:30 cover is $10, and $20 after. We parked directly across the street for $10, and we found out if you park down the street it was $5 which is an even better deal for those of us on a budget these days. We waited in line for less than 5 minutes, and when we went into the main room is was CRACKIN! On Saturdays they have a live band where you can dance/listen to salsa. The dance floor was HUGE. We went upstairs to see what the music was like and it was a more tropical/reggae vibe upstairs and there was a more relaxed feel to it. THEN there is the basement. Once on the main floor, you can go downstairs to the basement where they play nothing but Hip Hop. We got there early so there were hardly any people there. There are 2 large screens playing music videos and a tiny bar. By midnight the place was PACKED. My friends and I danced the entire night and I can't remember the last time we had that much fun. If you don't like to be touched, or hate tons of people this place is NOT for you. It's impossible to walk through the crowd without accidentally bumping into someone. If you do, which I did, I always make it a point to make eye contact and say "sorry!" for safe measure LOL. I only have three trivial complaints, and this is why I didn't give it the full 5 stars, but it won't keep me from going back: 1. There are ZERO bathrooms on the main level. You either have to go upstairs or downstairs. If you are on the main level, and you are a male i recommend just going upstairs. If you are brave and do decide to use the restroom in the basement you will have to walk all the way to the BACK of the room, having to tread through the dance floor where it is almost impossible to walk through. 2. Perhaps I have been spoiled by the drink prices at the club in Long Beach my friends and I frequent (Club Bounce) but drink prices at the Mayan are NOT cheap at all. I would tell anyone to pre-game before your arrival at the club if you are on a budget...(which I am LOL). 3. The last and final complaint is a bit foolish but it's important if you are a LADY...which I am. I am a 6 foot 1 inch tall Mexican woman, and if I get stepped on by another female we may have a problem! There is no way you can miss me when I am so tall, and I didn't get a single apology. My toes hurt dammit! As far as the people who go there I didn't really see a lot of variety in the crowd. A sprinkle of black people, and the asians there were the ones who had come with me LOL. I guess that it just to be expected if you go to a place that plays mostly music in Spanish. Also, if you are the type that likes to get a snack before heading home there is a little stand across the street that offers cheap and fast food. I got 2 bacon wrapped hot dogs and a free horchata LOL. Now that's a deal! *For the smokers* There is an outside smoking area downstairs in the basement directly in front of the stairs as well as another seating/smoking area upstairs in the tropical room.

$$ - Can't really say they're that expensive because it's only a dollar more for a large than the other commercial pizza places (pizza hut, dominoes, etc) and you get premium ingredients instead of the cheap kinds. Restaurant hours: 11-10pm (deliveries stop at 10) Events/bar hours: .. - 2am. Pros: Delicious pizza joint!! I absolutely love, love, love pizza and have tried many a place, but I have to say that this restaurant is top 5. Something about the sauce they use has a very clean taste and makes you want to eat more. The waitresses are very nice and cordial. They make sure you have everything you need. The wait time for the food was just right with no thought of "when is the food going to get out here." Plus, they use premium quality ingredients in their food, which you can tell from the taste. Overall, I had a very good experience here. Cons: The parking is a bit difficult to find. If you cannot find parking, there's a parking structure across from the restaurant; it's the shopping mall parking structure. They do not valet. The place is fairly large so even if 10 people are they eating, the place looks empty. I think they get their main business from deliveries. Mostly, parking was the main issue, but the pizza is sooo worth it. Night events: So this place books events (DJs, underground hip-hop, rap, etc), which is why the place is so big. I came on an event night and it was pretty chill. The crowd is easy going (18+) and seems like everyone is there to have fun. The bartenders are funny and nice and will take your order fairly quickly, even with a huge crowd. They make the drinks stiff, so you definitely get what you paid for. Note: If you're under 21 and you step out to smoke, they will not let you back in. I took my little cousin (20) out to get some fresh air and they wouldn't let her back in. After some explaining they let her back in that one time; I guess too many people have tried to sneak in and lie their way in.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk! 4 stars for this place just because I got to watch KU go 10-0 here! Overall, I think this place is good for watching football games since it doesn't get over-crowded like some of the other sports bars in my area (even during USC-Cal weekend). Have some decent pub food as well (I had the combo pizza). Decent # of TVs and different games playing.
