by Stephen D. on I've been here to dance a few times over the last couple years, and always had a blast - great music, great drinks, and I love the space. So we tried the dinner tonight (part of Dine About Town, but it was basically the usual Sunday dinner they have). It was...okay. The total came to 70$ per person for the 3 course dinner and a couple of drinks, which isn't unreasonable for a dinner, but is more than the food was worth - basically you're paying for the novelty. And well, reclining in the beds with the purple lights and the excellent downtempo, I decided I was fine with that. The food: brushetta, but kind of dumb - piled high with kale so most of it fell off when you took a bite, with some balsamic soaked something _underneath_ the bread. Novelty factor: they gave us latex gloves to wear while eating it. Then roast chicken, which was fine if bland, with undercooked potatoes and some broccoli in a bit of broth. Dessert was a kind of apple crisp with ice cream. Pet peeve: why do most bartenders have no idea how to make a sidecar? What I got was more like a screwdriver made with brandy, with a cherry thrown in for good measure. If you have no idea how to make it, just say so and I'll get something else. Anyway, stick to club drinks or their little menu of specialties (which we didn't see till later - oops).
by Jewel Y. on I love Salsa Night at S.O.B. on Fridays! Azucar!! There's a salsa band playing live music all night, so you can dance away the night to the fun Latin music! If you come here before 7pm, ladies get in for free! And there' s a free salsa lesson from 7-8pm. My friends who showed up around 10pm had to pay $25 to get in, so if you want to save $$$, come here early! So why only 3 stars? Because the dance floor is too small and there's a mandatory entree order per person if you want to sit at the table(ofcourse we do!), and even if you order a food, they would let you have your table for only about an hour or so. Very not cool! Food was ok, I had churrasco (about $25) which was not bad but definitely not outstanding..... I much prefer Mi Bandera or Cafe Cortadito for great churrasco!!! Drinks here are expensive too, minus 2 stars! Overall, I always have a great fun night here despite these minuses so I recommend this place if you love salsa. I definitely wanna check out Bhangra Night next time!!!
by Wilbur Perzanowski on Bar, long narrow might have to move folks out of the way before making it toward the end of the bar. Small quaint good place to put away a couple of drinks. Dance floor...is this what they are calling it now? Picture a low ceiling garage in any average San Franciscans older styled home. Uneven pavement , awkwardly placed wood/ cement pillars, dirt exposed floor, small encloves used for seating. I could imagine this place for small meet ups with drinks for a couple folks, but for the way it's dance party utilized nowadays... bring your own oxygen mask. No Joke. Bar=Yes, Dance Club=No, unless you are into dancing in small confined no bigger than your average sized San Francisco bedroom with 25-35 other people, and furniture.
