Came here on a Saturday night. Only way to really enjoy this place is by reserving table service. You're allowed 7 guests for every bottle you order, which is twice as many as most Hollywood clubs. A bottle of premium alcohol will run you about $350. By 12am this place is packed and I mean PACKED, which is why it's better to have table service so you can have your little corner and the men can retreat back to their man cave. The music didn't start getting good till sometime after midnight and by then the dance floor was packed with sweaty bodies. Highlights of the evening: - Good gogo dancers - Great outdoor area to get some fresh air - Free tacos - A fight broke out and a friend and I somehow got pummeled in to a back room that had dishes and premium alcohol bottles. We dropped our drinks during the fiasco, but the manager was kind enough to give us a new drink. I wouldn't have expected a fight at Blvd3, but hey... it's a club and there are plenty of inebriated brutes wanting to pound their chest and show off chest hair. I'm giving it a 3.5 because I did have a great time that night, the crowd was cultured (mixed and not full of Asians), there was plenty of free food, and the club itself is pretty cool.

Walking along E. 6th, I noticed the East Side Show Room and the sign touting vintage cocktails. I was intrigued. In reading the less than stellar reviews posted by others, I should caveat that because I sat at the bar and dined solo, perhaps my drinking/dining experience may be different from those who received table service. But I have to say, I really loved the ESSR and appreciate what they're doing. Coming from Portland where the service is fairly indifferent regardless of the restaurant, I was very impressed with the Brian, who served up some very tasty Moscow Mules (a vodka, lime, and ginger drink). I also enjoyed watching him mix other drinks and appreciated the care and craft that went into them. For example, they use real egg whites for their "sour" drinks rather than using a sour mix. Perhaps those who were looking for a vodka & tonic should have stopped into Shangri-La next door. I loved that ESSR had a specific list of "vintage" cocktails available. They felt complementary to the menu, which featured food provided by local vendors. I had the charcuterie plate (chicken curry and two pork items served with a sliced baguette and pickled beets), which was delicious. For dessert, I ordered the crème brûlée. One of the chefs brought the dessert to me at the bar and asked how I liked the charcuterie plate. I really appreciated the opportunity to provide instant feedback. I'm definitely glad I decided to stop in the ESSR.

I've lived in Heights for most of my life, and like everything else in New York, the gentrification is crawling everywhere. In this case, it's the Latino gentrification. Nestled across from Fort Tryon Park, Mamajuana Cafe has a Spanish rustic feel. The service is good and they are quite attentive. I recommend any of the seafood dishes there or their interesting combinations of pizza. And as the namesake, make sure to have a shot of mamajuana (a Dominican spiced rum).
