by Smitcha B. on Once upon a time this spot was called White Lotus, then it was Halo, then it was something else, and now it is Colony. It must be all those exotic plants and wooden walls on the outside that made me feel like I was lining up for the oldskool Miami Vice show at Universal Studios Tour (shi*t, am I that old?). Unfortunately, I didn't have my Don Johnson gear on that night. When I first walked in, I was quite impressed with the place. I was trying to imagine all those other times I've been here when it was called something else. It definitely felt like the joint received a complete make over. The shared men/women bathroom must be the new "it" thing because I've been seeing it more and more these days. Don't worry ladies, you won't be sharing urinals or anything but maybe the sink space. There's also another hidden set of restrooms to the rear of the place where it's a little more low key for you Tony Montana snorting wannabes. In the big hall-ish room where there's a raised platform in the middle, you can smoke until your lungs turn black. Although it looks like it is still considered indoors, the designers made this room to please you smokers. There are open air ventilations at the ceiling. However, the smoke doesn't completely rise out of the building, it continues to linger indoors. I would constantly smell and breathe all that lovely second hand smoke while standing in the smaller room next door. No bueno. Drinks are your typical Hollywood prices. We never had a real problem getting any drinks as in waiting too long so that's always nice. It's a nice change up from its past but personally, I think one-two visits is plenty. Maybe I'm just over the scene?
by Elizabeth C. on Mediocre DJ - could not seem to figure out how to keep the dance floor flowing Like another review before mine, I went there as a guest for a SITC "launch party" with fashion show. Looked at the Ecco bottle service and could not even conceive of partaking in bottle service here - the vibe was not all that...even if I were in a drunken love fest it would notbe worth it. The scene was a veneer of perceived young Hollywood glamour gone bad with a huge edge of raunchiness. I am still kicking myself for not leaving whe I was told I had to stand in line when I and my crew were on a guest list. I am not a pretentious person by any means - this club is not an ultra lounge unless you like you like the feeling of being packed in like a sardine and treated like cattle. Lets hear it for ye olde Hollywood club money machine formula!! Cha - ching suckas!
by Brendon Palmino on I've lived in Heights for most of my life, and like everything else in New York, the gentrification is crawling everywhere. In this case, it's the Latino gentrification. Nestled across from Fort Tryon Park, Mamajuana Cafe has a Spanish rustic feel. The service is good and they are quite attentive. I recommend any of the seafood dishes there or their interesting combinations of pizza. And as the namesake, make sure to have a shot of mamajuana (a Dominican spiced rum).
