by Charmaine Riffe on My good friend--world famous Drew Shula--had his bday here last weekend. Now, typically I get an evite and a few things can happen. 1. I see that some boring people are on the invite list and immediately delete it--then rationalize that I never saw the email and stick to that story in case of future questioning from the source. 2. I see that the event is at a nightclub and immediately delete and the source (a friend of mine) doesn't even bother to ask why I didn't show because they ALREADY KNEW I wouldn't be caught dead at the location and were just inviting me to be nice (which I do appreciate). So it took a very special guy to get me up here--and this location was actually really fun. As far as aesthetics and cleanliness--I do not know how they could improve. The place looks gorgeous--like a Mediterranean Villa equipped with fireplaces, plates filled with S'Mores Material (graham crackers, chocolate, marshmallows & sticks), and bathrooms without puke and pus dripping from the sink. Clean and pretty. The crowd was mixed--not just "Little Saigon" squared like V20 in Long Beach or The Shark Club (ca map) in Costa Mesa (or any D&B for that matter--are Asians the only people out at night I now wonder?). A lot of nicely dressed and civil types--so everything was cool. The DJ sucked BIG TIME. One of the all time worst DJs I have ever heard--totally out of touch with his crowd. I watched as the entire joint was jumpin' thanks to some Ol' School Snoop and of course--no surprise--Michael Jackson--he pulled the tracks within twenty seconds and lost the whole floor--totally worthless DJ--Who hired him and why is he at a place like this??? LAME. As far as clubs go--this is a nice place. And this is coming from me--the picky Grinch of club reviews........
