Gosh some of these reviews here are so harsh! I've been to Jillian's a bunch, and during a major football game (pretty much any Sunday), it is nearly impossible to get in. I'm a Lakers fan. My buddy's a Warriors fan. This past Friday night both teams were playing, and we wanted to go someplace where we could see both games on the big screen. Success. I made a reservation on Opentable, but I was surprised to see that the place was pretty empty. I don't think I had ever seen that place so dead. So that was great for us! We got great seats, had some beers and food, and watched the game. Regarding the beer, I really don't see how a San Francisco bar can have like 10 beers on tap and not have a single one of them be an IPA. I mean... please? We were a bit disappointed in the quality of the broadcasts, as well. Are those HD feeds? Is it just an old projector? We didn't think the detail level came close to our TVs at home. We started with the cheese dip, and I can say that was awesome. It isn't just like a pot of nacho cheese. it's actually baked, and it has a slight crust that you need to cut through with the chips. Delicious. Then we had burgers, and those were fine. If there's not a huge wait, Jillian's is a great place to come watch sports. I hope they upgrade some of their equipment soon though.

There was nothing great about this club. I had to photograph an event here and I was not at all impressed. The DJ's were ok, the decor was ok, and the service was ok. Everything just seemed ok to be honest. The outdoor patio was cool and the fashion show I was photographing was super cool. The clothes were awesome. The crowd was weak as hell. Too many plastic girls and greasy guys. I swear everyone looked just alike. I felt like I was in an episode of the Xfiles that could be called "The Club Pod Peeps." The best thing I saw all night was the cat fight that was going on when I was leaving. These girls were vicious and the cops had to throw one of them down on the ground and put his knee into her back to keep her down. Now that's entertainment!

Maybe I was there at a wrong night... or maybe it was because I just wasn't in the mood to party some more after the Rufus Wainwright party (Thanks, rateclub!)... but again, all I was looking for was to have a few drinks with a girlfriend to catch up. So it didn't matter to me that this place was "so not happening" on a Thursday night. The bouncer was friendly -- after we got the "we belong" look, we went in, only to find a few scattered groups in the lounge. The decor reminded me of some trendy clubs on Hollywood Boulevard in LA, or a lounge at a W hotel. I was having flashbacks... and then I checked out the crowd -- it was definitely NOT LA. In one corner, there was a couple all over each other... doing @#%&* In another corner, a few people in business suits. Definitely folks on the road from elsewhere... In another corner, a group of eight celebrating someone's birthday. All of the women in that group were good-looking and dressed very fashion-forward. The two men -- average. Your typical SF group. When some 80s tech no music came on, two of the women jumped to top of the lounge table and started dancing. One of them was wearing a long blouse without pants, or maybe it was a short short short short dress. Thank goodness she was wearing a black thong underneath. A third woman got up to the table to join them. I love it when people can just laugh at themselves and have a great time, no matter how others were gawking at them. I wondered how many of my guy friends would have loved to see the free show. A Bellini later, I was ready to call it a night. I'd prefer a dive bar or a coffee joint over this, at any time.
