So we're house sitting right across the street from this place and there's a sign outside that says "Breakfast Served All Day", which is fine and dandy with me! Now Greenpoint, as you might know, is an old school truly Polish neighborhood, so this modern Eurodance nightclub sticks out like a sore thumb on the corner of Morgan and Nassau. The place was dead empty at noon on Friday, even with their enticing all-day breakfast offering. There was a tough looking girl with a wife beater behind the bar and almost unpleasantly loud dance music blaring. I would not have been shocked to see those two Night at the Roxbury guys bopping their heads in the corner. We sat out on the rather nice, if not slightly gaudy, back patio under a beautiful blue tarp and checked the breaky menu out - I ordered the Fusilli Pasta Scramble as did our friend and the wife ordered the Strawberry Blintzes. It seriously took forever for them to make it. Nearly a half an hour. We saw the waitress only once for a coffee replacement (notice the phrasing - she brought me a whole new cup instead of refilling. Weird.). The girls went to el baño hoping to induce food arrival, which as usual, worked like a charm, but at this point I wasn't expecting much. Then I tasted. The pasta was a touch undercooked, but the scramble was amazing! Fresh polish sausage and yummy herby eggses, fresh tomatos and parmesan. Yum! The wife's blintzes were amazing as well. Fresh, creamy strawberry filling, served with Nutella. If the rest of the food is comparable to what we had, then it's well worth the mediocre service and crappy music. I've heard the place turns into douchebag central at night, so beware. We're across the street at 1AM on Saturday night and can hear nary a peep coming from there.

Do not pay $20 to get in here! I am warning you, you will be disappointed unless you are looking to hump on the dance floor with nasty guys. The drinks weren't as expensive as expected, only $15 for two vodka drinks. I had read many reviews about the music sucking, and the thing was, the music was good! The DJ sucked though, he would play each song for like 30 seconds and then just switch. Perhaps my favorite part of the entire evening was watching a girl straddling a guy and bouncing up and down, mimicking sex moves. Or maybe it was the 55 year old man with a male companion wearing a full length fur pimp coat. Or the weird raver guy who attempted to give me a foot massage on the couch. Wow, it was interesting to say the least.

So I guess I have two perspectives of Caf Du Nord. One from the 'yea lets go see my favorite 'fill in the blank' band in a small, intimate space and drink too much and rock out.  Drinks are strong but pricey, the bathrooms are clean and the line isn't too long and its one of the 'classier' venues in my opinion in SF to see a show.  Also, the guy bartender is kind of a douche and totally overcharged us on our drinks.  The girl bartender charged us two dollars less.. I actually said something to him and he was like oh I will give you a discount.. whatever! Perspective B is from a band's perspective since my bf's band has played here twice now. They are kind of a pain to deal with and you can't play anywhere else for like a month but then again if you fill the place up you get quite a nice little pay check.  But my main complaint is that they give out nasty budweisers to the band instead of drink tickets (I mean seriously!! Ewwww), even though my bfs band like filled up the place they still gave them shit about the guest list and made them pay for the few extras (whatever!) and  in general they are kinda snotty. So if you are going to go to a show here I would suggest getting drunk at the Expansion down the street beforehand! And if you are a band good luck and I hope you like Bud.
