I think my days in Hollywood are numbered. I just can't seem to hang with the Hollywood freaks anymore these days. Last night Melissa A. and I came out of retirement and went out to our old stomping grounds to visit one of our promoter friends. We got there at around midnight and the line in front was a total mess. Thank goodness for our friend or this might have turned into another Crown Bar "Jan" incident. Come very very early if you don't know anyone and are with guys or be prepared to stand in line for a looooong time. The club is HUGE. I really wasn't expecting it to be so big! There are two dance floors, the DJ downstairs was playing a lot of Kings of Leon and MGMT. I was definitely a fan. So was some random dude who decided to buy the DJ a bottle for his spinning skills. Haha what the eff? Only in Hollywood... This place attracts the usual regulars: bottle blondes with scary hard implants and their sleazy guy counter parts. Definitely met some interesting characters here though. I was expecting the crowd to be better looking, but I guess Mondays are their night. Oh and someone decided to make it rain NAPKINS in the middle of the dance floor last night. Hilarious.

Sorry....but I didn't like it. First of all, I couldn't find it.  I drove around the area, confused, as did others, because the only sign on the building was for Pedro's.  Huh? What reason would I have to think this was Bordello bar when the only sign says it is a restaurant called Pedro's..... There are no visible street addresses in the area, where barricades for road construction made things even more difficult..  I even went across the 1st Street bridge into East LA, trying to find an address on a building. Fortunately I found people on the street, after driving around for half an hour, who told me where Bordello was.  I had given up, and was ready to head back home after driving for almost two hours in heavy rush hour/holiday getaway traffic to get there. So OK, I finally understood when I arrived at the entrance:  Bordello is supposed to be a unidentified speakeasy.  But is it good business to hide your business?  Not in my book. Once inside, I thought the themed decor was attractive.  However the sign identifying the ladies room was also well hidden from view. And....the scantily-clad bordello girls working behind the bar never smiled, not once that I saw.   What's up with that?  I think the ladies need to lose the 'tude..... I was looking forward to dancing to the live music, as were others.  The music turned out to be mood music that you could not dance to.  A big disappointment, and the main reason I left at 10:30.  There was a great dance floor area, then we were provided with nothing we could even dance to.  The strange music was downright creepy to me.  I didn't get it at all. The non-rateclubser patrons scattered about the bar seemed a bit overwhelmed by our private party.  I got many inquiries as to what rateclubs was all about. Lastly, the drinks gave me a headache.  Have no idea why.  I'm glad I only had two light ones. Overall, Bordello was a series of letdowns for me, not my cup of tea at all.  Two stars. Plus one star because they hosted our event.  Appreciated.

I will admit that I really can't eat here anymore due to my dietary choice, but it is so damned much fun!  You get led into this giant room with a pirate ship in the middle, which reminds me of a tiny version of  "The Goonies" set when they find the ship in a cave. I always stare at the little alligators and wonder if they ever get snacks thrown overboard... arrr. When I was a meat-eating kid I loved going here- my parents would bring folks from out of town to enjoy the Dante experience and I was always eager to go. The one thing that always fascinated me (besides the alligators) was the fact you can get the menu in 55 languages! This is definitely a great place to bring non-Atlantans to enjoy some fondue and atmosphere!  And those who haven't been down the hatch yet! Final vote- vegetarians= you will love it-they have a vegetable plate for your dipping pleasure!  Vegans= go with friends and eat beforehand!
