I made the mistake of going here without a reservation as part of my birthday celebration. There is nowhere to sit unless you get a table and my shoes were killing me! Drinks were outrageously expensive and the place was super crowded. What little i could see of the show looked fantastic but i had to watch it in the reflection in the wall mirror because there were so many people in front of me. The crowd was all young and sexy, a good mix of outfits and orientations. I'm sure it'd be a great venue if you have cash to burn and reserved a table but I will never go back.

Hmmm...when I first heard the concept for the bar I was mildly interested in how they were going to pull it off. Austin is not a glam and neon type club scene, and certainly NOT Sixth Street. Charging cover on Sixth Street? Almost seems blasphemous. I have taken to calling the club "PURE-tentious" after a night a while back when a friend went to the club and was turned away because of "rips" in his jeans. As he walked away the door guy said, "you probably bought them that way too didn't you fag?". Actually he did buy them that way and the probably cost more that the little prick at the doors car payment. But that is a moot point, it was rude and uncalled for. Pure is incredibly out of place on Sixth Street and it's oddity fails to make it a novelty, which would at least be interesting, and just makes it an annoyance. I have friends who work there and if you are one of them and you read this, remember it's not personal, it's just a job. SO....the drinks are way overpriced, the door staff likes to play tough like they are protecting the damn Hope Diamond or something but in reality they aren't protecting much. Internally it is a beautiful bar, lots of neon, nice materials, very cool look but it does little to combat the crappy drinks, exorbitant prices, pretentious staff and the wrong DJ. I was there opening night and I have been in there a few other times since but never for more than a few seconds. I just can't handle it. Now don't get me wrong about the DJ comment, the DJ there is very good at what he does but it just isn't Austin, Texas nightlife type music. Playing crazy mash-ups and changing it up every twenty seconds works if you are a huge celebrity DJ (Oakenfold, AM, Tiesto) but unless people are paying their hard earned cash to see YOU, it's not gonna work. Being a DJ in Austin I frequently hear that the biggest complaint with the club is the music. It is hard to find your groove or get dancing, and what the hell happened to the sing along? Pure would be better suited in Miami, Las Vegas or even Los Angeles but it just doesn't work in Austin. Maybe if they lost the asshole attitude, started treating fellow service industry people with respect and lowered their prices this place could become a novelty and be worth stopping by once in a long while, but as of right now, it's just not worth it. It's just not Austin.
