Playhouse is like a mini Vegas nightclub. Really fun, good music, and great looking people dressed to the nines. I must say, that I had an exceptionally good night there. It was a Saturday, and the lines were long as usual, but we had a few birthday girls that schmoozed their way to the front of the line. They got in free, but I took a shot in the dark and told them it was my birthday 2 weeks prior, and got in for half off! Inside, I tried telling the MALE bartender the same thing, and he gave me beers all night ON THE HOUSE! Seems like the typical LA douche baggy kind of club, but at the same time, it's not!

It was a girls' night and I was again appointed the task to find a good place to go to for a Saturday night. I don't go to clubs very often but the ones that I have been to weren't any good. At least not good enough to take a non-native Angeleno. I have to represent, right? So it was Boulevard3. I figured we could gamble on the shitty music (that seemed to be a common complaint) for the beauty of the place (based on pictures). We got there and the line wasn't too bad. We weren't on the list but it helped being with a hottie so we got in without cover :]. The place immediately stood out. As we walked through the entrance... WOW. We walked some more... WOW. It really is beautiful. It's the most beautiful venue that I have been to around here. The drinks are pricey (shots came to about $12 each) but they were definitely strong. That dancing platform is awkward and an accident waiting to happen. So we decided to avoid that (especially me) unless we happened to be able to make it to the very center :] The crowd was mixed (but seemed a bit older) and overall we had a blast. Oh and the music wasn't bad at all. It was actually really good that night. Seriously... now I have a place I can take "visitors" to without being too scared of letting them down.

I went here for a bachlorette party. wowee! they made us wait quite a few minutes freezing in our sparkly feather boas even though we were on the list. when they did let us in, we still had to pony up 20 bones. the coatcheck is on the right. if you can push through the sweaty striped shirts soaked in cologne, and frizzy curls in hoochie tops, the bar is on the left. i asked the bartender for a redbull and vodka and i got mostly cheap vodka and a splash of redbull for 9 bucks. the ladies pushed our way some more into the back towards the small dancefloor. Thankfully they have chairs since the music wasn't that good. i put my drink down after making a face from taking a sip and it was whisked away by a busboy. the bathrooms are on the left of the dancefloor through the curtains. 2 stalls in the ladies bathroom is a luxury for bars and clubs of sf. i hate when you feel obligated to tip a dollar in the bathroom when there are no hairspray, deo , mints, etc. but there was a poor chickie handing out papertowels for her dollar tip. the layout isn't bad, there is a upstairs balcony area where the guys check out the action downstairs. the only decor piece that isn't great is the giant disturbing picture of a harlot behind the dj. i prefer a more empowering vision of a "harlot." women can be portrayed as sexy and powerful without being demeaning. anyhoo.... the guys were respectful on the dance floor. the ones i wanted to throw my drink on were the ones not letting me pass through to exit. i wish they could spin better music because the brief moments when they had a good song on, i did get groovin' on the dance floor. *******update so an invite to the upstairs area for a private table...i have upgraded harlot to a fab four stars. sipping a cocktail mixed by my own server overlooking the crowd downstairs? hmmmm....heaven.
