This place is terrible... and, in comparison to all the better and cheaper alternatives, Vanguard sucks. I went there in November/2008 with 4 other friends and I don't think we will ever go back. The bouncers had their uncalled for Hollywood attitude and, once inside, one of the bartenders was beyond disrespectful to one of my friends. My friend wanted to buy drinks and leave an open tab with her credit card (due to their $40 minimum), but she did not want to leave her ID with the bartender (how would the bartender otherwise know that my friend is the owner of the credit card??? ESPECIALLY since it was at a Halloween event party where people have their faces painted, she wanted to hold on to her ID). So the bartender threw the credit card at my friend and turned to another bartender and told not to serve my friend. On top of that, I authorized on my credit card receipt a charge for $48 and the bartender added an additional $8 to it without my consent. I called Vanguard to complain and they said they saw my handwriting on the receipt and there was nothing they could do about it - which obviously wasn't my handwriting but the bartender's. It's a waste of my time to move forward with this $8 dispute, but it's a frustration having to deal with dishonesty and less than acceptable customer service. They have lost me and my friends as customers.

Although admittedly not a big house music fan in general, I had a great time here on "Balance" Saturday for a friend's birthday. Reviewers are spot on when they say you come here for the music and dancing. Everyone is super chill and friendly in this large warehouse space adorned with big black banners scribed with the Chinese characters of Love, Peace, Friendship, Compassion, etc. Two bars at the back as well as VIP bottle service booths provide enough libations for the inner lush in all of us. Parking is a pain of the neck, but then again this is the heart of Hollywood ($10 to park in the lot out back). At 10:30, there wasn't much of a line at all. Just remember to bring your dancing shoes!
