I went for Happy Hour on a Friday, before the official Grand Opening. I have to say, I like what I see.. A few pool tables in the back.. Glass cubical smoking lounge which is actually outdoors, sort of.. Spacious bathrooms.. Full bar.. Good food, we only had the steak on garlic bread, and fried calamari. . A lot of lounge space with seating.. A good sized dance floor.. This is the old Empire Billiards. They have a small parking lot, don't know if you can park on the SPA's side.. It wasn't busy when we went, because it wasn't officially open yet, so we shall see. I will update when I go back for an all out party. Looks like it will be a good alternative for partying in the city.

Dear End Up, I think we can still be friends....we have such a history together. I love how I can sit on your back patio, sip a cocktail and squint my eyes and pretend I'm in Hawaii or dance on your dancefloor and remember the days I would come to you after having been up all night raving on ecstasy....yes End Up we go way, way back...so please, please don't be offended when I start bringing a flask with me. You see End Up when you charged me $8.50 for a vodka and Red Bull my feelings got a little bit hurt and I almost considered not being your friend anymore but we both know that can't happen...our lives are intertwined forever....and you have great music and I love the Bacon Dog cart so lets just call a truce ok?

The love that people show for this venue - nay, San Francisco historical landmark and institution! - is real, and Bimbo's deserves all of it. I saw DeVotchKa there, and it had probably the best sound in the city. Not only was the venue perfect, but it's just stunning to see something so beautifully taken care of. It's an Art Deco lover's paradise - from each room immaculately decorated, to the washroom with ladies' attendant (!) and individualized makeup tables. The staff is pretty attentive - I had a bartender from the school of Knows How to Make Obscure Drinks Without Batting An Eye. All in all it's what musicians dream of when they think 'intimate venue'. I don't normally rateclubs a lot of reviews for popular places - and with 149+ reviews, Bimbo's certainly doesn't need any help from me. But wanted to say something about how magical and beautiful this venue is. Every city deserves 'that' club where music and beauty combine to make a magic experience. For us in the Bay Area, that place might as well be Bimbo's. Thanks folks for such a treasure.
