I think my experience here has a lot to do with the timing. I went in, anticipating a cool place to finish out my work day (as I often do in cafés) and at around 4:45pm, they shift the lighting from cute little day café to club & pump up the dance music. Really? for the 5pm rush? Surprisingly yes. A few minutes later the place is seemingly flooded with art school 'hipsters', I assume from the Art Institute down the street. Service was indifferent and the espresso was passable. However, the environmental whiplash made the ambiance a little awkward. Perhaps I'll give it another try when (hopefully) I won't be in store for such a milieu shift.

I absolutely loved this restaurant, I may be a little biased since I can't find Dominican food anywhere near where I live, but I have eaten at other Dominican places in DR and in NY and by far this is the best! We got there late, about 11PM on a Friday night, it was busy, they said about a 15 minute wait.  We went to the bar, it was crowded but not hard to get a drink although it was a little pricey ($20 for a rum and coke and an amaretto sour).  DJ music started a little after we were seated, it was loud but it added to the ambiance.  The noise didn't bother me at all, in fact I enjoyed it, the music was all new stuff.  I loved it, I've never been to a place like this.  People were dancing in their seats, the employees were having fun and seemed to love their jobs.  We ordered appetizers to start off, I had the chicken pinchos and my friend had the baked plantain with bacalao.  Both arrived quickly and tasted great!  We ordered the churrasco to share with the yuca fries.  This was THE BEST I have ever had.  The steak was seasoned and so tender and was a good portion size.  The yuca fries were like no other I have ever had before, I have no idea how they made them but they were good! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area!

I can't give a worse review for this hotel. Having read the website, my friend decided to book a night at the Phoenix because it said it was a rock 'n' roll hotel and that it could be quite loud at times. Alas, my friend and a crew of 5 people show up together, my friend has made reservations for a king suite, which costs a grueling 300 bucks. First, the clerk acts like we're not even there as the door is locked and he can see us through the glass. The bouncers outside of the out-of-towners-to-get-slutty-club are rude and won't answer our questions. Tons of people are still partying in the club after 2 am, yet we can't even get into our hotel room. Finally, they let us in. The guy acts like he is doing us a favor by letting the five of us in! So, we go up to the corner suite and then 3 more of our friends are coming up, but the guy won't let them in. Whatever, some people don't even bother, a couple people leave, and I sneak up my boyfriend. There's six of us in the room, and the guy comes up and says that he's gotten a noise complaint! We weren't even being that loud! Seriously. I'm headed out the door anyways, so we just take-off. And the next day they charge my friend 100 bucks for the noise complaint, and I think they were just being asses (this guy had a great smirk on his face when he came to the room). She should have made them prove that the noise complaint was real. How could we be louder than all the people still chillin' in the club!? But seriously, this place isn't any good! Stay at the Hilton for christ sakes and get your money's worth! That way you won't have to worry about a bunch of pretentious coke-heads. Oh yea, and I'm sure it is great if you're a rock star or here for some special reason, because I'm sure they treat rock stars wonderfully. But we're all paying with the same money that we earned! So we should get the same treatment. This is a hotel for elitists! Who would have thought?
