I've not been to Cielo in awhile so when I stepped in on Sunday to hear Junior Vasquez spin for a bit I remembered just why I love this place so much. Cielo is always consistently excellent. The sound, the lighting - everything. They have an amazing sound system which will knock your socks off and keep you dancing for hours. The Wednesday party at Cielo is probably one of the best in the city and brings together a collection of former Sound Factory and Paradise Garage denizens who love the groove - if you've not been make an effort because it is fierce. I don't understand why people complain about standing in line at Cielo, I've never had to stand in line at this club, not once. Look the part and you won't have a problem, it's the same way at every club in New York. Once you come here enough and they get to know you the staff may give you a "Star Card." This card is a gift from the gods - it gives you and a friend line-jumping privileges and free entry (yet another reason I love Cielo - I don't have to pay to get in!!) I really, really love Cielo. I know that when I'm feeling a bit down or worn out from school I can always swing by here and listen to some kick-ass music and dance my ass off. While the rest of the meatpacking district has gone to hell Cielo maintains its dignity and stands as a bastion of fierceness.

Great American, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways: 1. You get some great acts, both big names and some unknowns. 2. Fantastic decor. 3. You are within walking distance from my house. 4. You have nice bartenders who pour with a heavy hand. 5. Your security people are actually NOT assholes (unlike the Fillmore). 6. Good acoustics. 7. All the colorful characters standing outside the venue. Just tell your damn sound guy to not mic the drums so much. I've been to three shows recently and the drums were totally overpowering the vocals.
