After hitting balls at Chelsea Piers this Friday night we were looking for a place to grab dinner and few more drinks ... short walk up the West Side Highway and we were perfectly content. It was the perfect end of summer night, a bit chilly, but nothing a sweater couldn't handle. We settled in with our drinks and contemplated food. The burger was good, but I wasn't a fan of the bun and a little well done for my taste. However they don't give you an option on how you would like your burger done and I'm going to assume for good reason. The old bay garlic fries are absolutely delicious and you have to get them! I have to confess the four stars is for the establishment when it is not over crowded with D-bags hanging off the side with their shirts off (I'm not in college anymore and don't have patients for those guys). You will catch me here on a quiet end of summer evening, not the first beautiful day in May.

The new Fado's is rather impressive, the rooftop bar being a major feature. I must say, however, that I miss some of the character of the old digs. I am always amused by chain restaurants who buy their authenticity from a pub building company in Dublin. In this case, it was the Irish Pub Company. I am sure they spent a fortune but does anybody else see the cynicism? For a chain, Fado's does many things right. The food is consistently good- the haddock taste fresh, good corned beef, Irish breakfast plus lots of American bar food. Irish and European sporting events are carried via satellite. And, they have local Irish session musicians on Monday nights. Lots of energy. All in all, a good effort. I don't like the valet parking either!

Cutty but I enjoyed it. I'm not big on huge clubs like Temple or Suite 181. They're just meat markets and prime locations to suffer from the back attack. Ladies, you know what I'm talking about. You're just in the building and feeling yourself and then some fool comes up from behind trying to get down with you. Anyway, this place is just the opposite. It's smaller but the dance floor is still a good size. I came on a Saturday night and it wasn't too crowded but still a decent turnout. There were still places to sit but best of all, you could just dance and do your thing sans creepy guys. Okay, so there was one guy who thought he could join our group by doing the butterfly but that was it as far as weirdos go. I'm all for old school dances but he didn't even do it right. The crowd is pretty mixed. They had your run-of-the-mill ghetto fabulous guys, a guy who wore grey slacks, brown leather shoes and fuchsia socks (!!!) and even a guy dressed like Pee Wee Herman. The music was consistently good throughout the night. Probably the best music I've heard played at a club in a long time. And of course, what I deem the most important when going to any bar/club- the bathrooms were IMMACULATE. With the exception of the one stall that you have to lift the toilet seat up in order to close the door.
