by Patty A. on Look-wise, this place was gorgeous. You can tell that they put a lot of time and effort into the little things to make this place resemble the old fashion French feeling. Food-wise, this place was a joke. I took my girlfriend out to dinner for her birthday and we decided to try a new hot spot in LA. Trust me I get it - when it comes to French food, the smaller the better, but come on...they need to adjust just a little bit to the American food culture too. Our appetizer was hilarious, the best way to explain the size would be like the little cups you get when you order salad dressing on the side. We figured okay, we picked the wrong thing - let's move on to the main course. I ordered chicken and my friend ordered some sort of fish. Our dishes come out and my chicken was half the size of the palm of my hand, and my friend got 2 bites at most of her fish. Since it was my friends birthday we of course had to order some dessert - we thought okay maybe some sweets will fill us up. At this point, we weren't shocked to see 3 balls of chocolate and a splash of fudge on our dessert plate. So we proceeded to cut the little chocolate balls in half and enjoy our dessert. Our bill came close to $200 and we left starving, I wouldn't go back to eat there, maybe for a drink or 2 at most.
by Stuart Rathbone on Recommended. But if you are in a short skirt/dress of shorts, avoid the orange mod room. Vinyl and sweaty flesh-bad. This was due to the fact that the first hour was like a sauna in there. Two and a half hours in, the a/c was on. Our group of five was one of the first to fill a room but service was on the ball. I love that you can order full-on food here. Drinks have a bit to be desired as only hard liquor by the 750ml bottle, shochu and one kind of beer was available. The place as a whole is a huge step up from the karaoke places on Sawtelle. Bigger rooms, better seating (except for the orange vinyl couch) and good service. The food was ok. If you are drunk, it's fantastic. Lots of fried options. I particularly enjoyed the fried chicken wings. Big and meaty and came with a spicy dipping sauce. Song selection was surprising. They have different books for different languages and even between the English books, there was a huge difference. Ask for more than one book. Parking is easy. There is a big valet lot and street parking can usually be found. For almost three hours, a ton of food, 4 beers, a bottle of sochu, and 5 bottles of water, the total was $250. Not cheap but not too bad if you know what you are in for.
by Rufus Fallis on I haven't been to the new location yet (I am going tonight) but am laughing because so many reviewers below seem to think that the Knitting Factory's "old location" is Leonard Street. Folks, that's only its "previous" location. For ages before that, the Knitting Factory was located on Houston Street in the space that is now inhabited by Botanica. Will update tomorrow with my thoughts on this latest incarnation. ... OK, so I liked the new setting although the front bar was VERY cold! we had to keep our coats on. Also, for the person below who said there are only 3 unisex bathrooms: untrue. There are indeed those bathrooms at the back of the room with the main stage, but there are also normal M&W multistall bathrooms in the hall leading there. Sound was good but they need to work on the lights they turn on between acts; they blind anyone standing at the bar.
