I went here about a month ago for the advanced screening of Machete. The positives were the architecture and the sound was pretty good. the negatives were a couple of the staff members were just jerks and the leg room was really lacking and I am not a tall person... so I cant imagine how it must have been for most of the audience that night. But the place is pretty nice and I would definitely go there again.

I wanted to really love this place but I can't. It's a large place in the Mid-City area. First when I walked in I expected more of a cafe type of place and what I got was tacky nightclub feel. It's decorated like a poor grandmothers house. Given that the lighting is so poor you would think they would opt for candles instead of fake flowers. The decor is cheap and univiting. The chairs are uncomfortable. It was a Saturday afternoon when I walked in there was no hostess or waitress to be found. So I sat down and some people came out but they were trying to fix the internet issues. Then the waitress appeared and a bunch of people came from upstairs. Apparently this place is much bigger than I could imagine. The waitress came with 10 boxes of Tamale Pie which was for the people upstairs. They seemed to be having a secret meeting of some sort. Once the waitress finally acknlowedged me she was warm and inviting. I opted for the Soul Plate with the soy chicken. It took about 20 minutes for my food which seemed very long given there was only one other table for two and they had already ordered. I wasn't sure if more food was being made for the group of unknown quantity upstairs. She brought me my tea which I still think was more like lemonde but it was very good and refreshing. My soul plate arrived piping hot. The greens, sweet potato and corn were well seasoned and not overcooked. The soy drumettes had a delicous coating but really I could have skipped the fake meat. It's really not their fault because I am not fan of faux meat. I'd rather have a lentil, bean or pea pattie for my protein. The prices are steep. For one I spent $18.95. I don't think I will be returning to dine. The place doesn't feel comforting. However, I will gladly get take out.

You could choose to park across the street with the "valet", if that's what you want to call it. Otherwise, would could drive around and attempt to find parking on the street. However, I wouldn't recommend that if the walk is too far. Call it my Spidey senses, but I had bad vibes about the area. At least in terms of walking to your car. Once you step inside, the place doesn't look bad. There's multiple booths and a large bar. The dance floor isn't really that large, but hey. The also have a DJ too. I've only been there twice and I never tried their food. Also, I never been there during the day, perhaps the crowd is different during the day.
