This place looked CLOSED when we walked by. When we came in, at around 11 oclock on a saturday night the place looked dead, very few people were there. We stayed for one drink, till about 1145, then left. Even given the 45 minutes we were there, it was still pretty empty. Kind of disappointing as my friend said it's usually busy. The drinks were strong at least, and the bartender acknowledged me relatively quicker compared to other bars I have been to. Sad the patio was closed, but given the other reviews on this site, it makes sense that it would be closed. It was good to check out a gay bar outside of the Castro, but this was kind of disappointing.

I have to say, if you are a casual observer like I am, the people watching here is phenomenal. I was admitedly stoned when we arrived, so that gave the evening a surreal vibe from the get-go. We parked 2 blocks away, which was well worth it, because we actually witnessed an honest to goodness breakdance battle in a nearby empty lot. Ok, back to the bar... the red lighting is a bit harsh on the eyes, but not as harsh as the flash photography every 5 seconds. I suppose what I dug the most were the women here. They dressed very sexy, but not slutty or trashy. I'm not a woman, but I'd imagine that would be a hard line to draw. Maybe I'm just not used to seeing kittens with style and class. Anywho, all in all it was an interesting joint filled with that mysterious top 10% of good-looking people that supposedly migrate here. I'll have to return to see if the 5th star can be delivered, or if I hit it on a better than most night.

The first time I went to Trudy's a few years ago, I remember ordering the Stuffed Avocado dish, which was memorable. Yesterday, I went again and figured I would order fajitas so I could more easily compare it to other mexican restaurants. Unfortunately, the fajitas did not compare favorably. First of all, the portions they give did not cover the sizzling platter that it was served on. The flavoring of the meat was good but the quality of the meat was pretty poor. The beef was dry and also difficult to cut with my teeth. The guacamole they served with the fajitas was horrible as well. Next time, maybe I'll go back to the Stuffed Avocado...or the Chorizo Stuffed Chicken -- that sounds good too, but so bad for you.
