by Mac M. on Oh, Sugar. I miss the days we used to spend together when I lived nearby. I love the look and feel of this place -- mostly, I love the huge windows so that I don't feel cramped in some dark cafe dungeon and, even MORE than that, I love their freakin' fireplace. Sure, Sugar is trying to be cool by serving as a cafe by day and lounge by night but some people (like me) can appreciate that. I've taken many of my first dates here and I have to say that it's that perfect balance between the cliche, informal coffee shop date and the-dinner-date-you-shouldn't-have-agreed-to-on-a- first-date date. And, besides that, it's one of the few places I've been to that serves lambic framboise. I know, I'm such a girl. Cheers!
by Thom S. on Disclaimer: Nightclub/Bar Review Only Its a hard life for a new bar or club. Its an even harder life for a new bar or club in the underground scene that is San Francisco. With a ton of options in the Mission and surrounding areas, whats another Jazz Club's chances of being great? Well apparently they are beating the odds. I was invited by a dear friend to a fundraiser for Amazon Watch at Coda a week or two back -- I got there and quickly found an amazing band, a great bar staff, an even better crowd, and a space to die for (totally versatile table setup that turned dancing later in the night, and a wide bar that makes for actually mingling). The place has a clean and new feel, but has also figured out how to achieve this jazzy old school vibe. I had plans to go out to other places that night, and next thing I knew I had spent hours at Coda, had made new friends, hung out with a bouncer, and left preaching the gospel: Coda is the jazz club for SF.
by Dallas Treloar on This a nice-looking bar / lounge / club in South Beach. Went a couple of times and had a good time. Did a lot of dancing, and drink service was good.
