This place met my two main East Asian karaoke snob criteria: private rooms and current enough music to include Lady GaGa (all of her singles to date, in fact). It combines the best of American and Japanese karaoke experiences. Only reason I didn't give five stars is bar service was very slow for my group. The window connecting the bar and party room is a good in theory but people had to wait forever at it. They have songs in English, Japanese, Spanish, and Chinese (not sure about Cantonese/Mandarin and Traditional/Simplified characters for the last one.) In terms of song selection, you can look through either of the two hard copy books (one by artist name and other by song title) and select using a remote, or search and select on the iPad in the room. I didn't have any food or drinks, but both seemed quite customized and delicious.

i happened to be in old city last weekend and popped in to national mechanics after reading all the reviews here...loved it...twas a saturday evening, not too crowded, lotsa space, got to sit in a booth for 4 when we were 2 people( not possible everywhere) ,the decor was nice...... the drinks were decently priced and good, the food was tasty , we had the chicken sandwich and crabcake sandwich and the popcorn chicken as appetizer.....the service was good even though there was only 1 person , the staff were real friendly...and i must say its a secret hidden jewel out there....

I'm not sure why they call this place a "nitery," but I love it. This is a sexy, smooth lounge. I came here on a Thursday night around 11 pm with a small group and it wasn't too crowded. Fine by me since I don't like fighting for a seat when I just want to chill and have a drink rather than dance. We took over one of the super comfy seating areas. The music was good and the drinks were great. The crowd is very mixed--from Japanese businessmen to yuppies to socialite party girls. I didn't see any celebs that I could recognize, but I guess this would be the place to spot them if you're into stargazing.
