YUM!! I finally got to eat at The Latest Dish this past Saturday. My husband & I were walking home from Center City in those bitter cold temps that hung around Philly for a few days last week. The original plan was to go to the trusty Royal Tavern on the way and then hoof it the rest of the way home. By the time we got to South Street, though, my legs were practically popsicles and I had to stop soon and hang out in a cozy place for a while. The Latest Dish happened to be half a block away from where I made this decision, and I am so happy that I did. I ordered the vegan burger and I have to say that it is the best black bean burger I have ever eaten. It comes with a side of their frites. The hubs ordered the chicken cordon bleu sandwich which also comes with the frites. We chowed down and relaxed in a warm, comfy, cozy environment and also enjoyed some fancy beers. Also, the waiter that we had was very friendly and accomodating. We will go back time & time again, not just when it feels like the Antarctica outside.

"I want something creamy tonight!" Yes, that's what this girl said to the uber handsome and fabulous bartender, Ryan. "I know exactly what you want!" he said and we exchanged winks. Yes, Halo is one of those places where you can say something like that and they will always know you're just looking to hook up with a delicious drink. Sitting in the beautiful bar, accompanied by a group of Atlanta's finest rateclubsers, I waited for my drink while talking and talking to the adorable Tulie, and enjoying the "ambiance." I was really curious of what Ryan was carefully fixing at the other side of the bright, marbled counter. Halo was...the third stop of that night? Yes, maybe. The place is charming in a very nightclub way, and because it was a weekday night, it wasn't packed or smoky as I read in other reviews (thank God!). The music was OK, nothing to write home about, but I understand the DJs can get really creative and entertaining. The highlights were definitely the drinks. About five minutes after my liquor petition was made, Ryan came back with an ivory drink for me. I tasted it and immediately felt the love! It was similar to a Brandy Alexander, which I adore. On top of it, he put two fresh cherries marinated in Apricot Brandy. OM Lord! Those cherries, combined with a sip of the drink were mana and nectar from the gods in perfect unison! I can say my initially creamy joke materialized in a dainty, light and scrumptious drink. Ryan told me he usually makes it during fall and winter seasons, but he made an exception for me...nice touch! Tulie got a Pink Pussy (yes, that's its name!) and Pam got a Pear drink that looked spectacular. We all tried each others libations and loved them. I will go back when in Atlanta...every time I think of Midtown, I will have those cherries in my mind. Always...

i went here last night for the first time. i had been told prior to entering that it used to be a burlesque bar back in the 1930's and that they've kept most of the original decor. the bar itself is really comfy feeling and worn in. the gothic chandeliers and elaborate mirrors all over the place are really cool, and the waitresses wear corsets and fishnets. total throw-back, in the best possible way. the drinks were average price, especially for a nicer place in downtown los angeles, but at least the cute bartenders pour a stiff drink. extra star for hosting a pretty fun dubstep night.
