"Sophisticated" it is not, but anyone expecting sophistication from a nightclub (instead of say, a library?) is willfully deluding themselves.  Let's hope.  "Clean"-- I'll say that.  Clean and plastic-pretty for now. I liked the nifty Mortal Kombat red orientalist theme and the drinks weren't too bad.  The staff is laughably disorganized, and their attempts to make my party the meristem of a line were foiled.  They *do* try so hard to get that line going, but for musclebound meatheads they are polite, no complaints there.  Both DJ sets I saw were heavy on the 80's, can't go wrong with that. Cute place, but nothing to write home about and certainly nothing to stand in line over. Oh yeah, and that groper in the bathroom someone mentioned?  It's for real!  The dude does nothing but get in the way of guys trying to take a leak, and somehow somewhere touch every female who walks in without mace in her hand.  He didn't have towels or anything; I no idea what his purpose is other than to stimulate lawsuits.  Attending a bathroom doesn't strike me as a particularly difficult gig, so I suggest they hire someone who can handle it and have that guy fondle cars (while parking them).

Went for Dine About Town. This is a good deal for Dine About cause they offer 2 options: 1. App 1 + App 2 + Entree = Too Much Food for Most unless you are a serious fan of carbs. 2. App 1 + Entree + Dessert = Probably Just Right On top of that they offer some regular dishes on the pre-fixe that go for $22 on the regular menu as well as the Kobe Beef Carpaccio! And on top of that, Prana provides you with a generous fried wonton and bread basket. Good Place for a group if you have the cash. Turns into a club at 10pm. Atmosphere is very LA or Vegas club style. High-ceilings, white room with lights, upscale club-like, with Waitresses who all look like ex-ravers. Our waitress seemed nice, but was a bit skiddish...maybe too much Special K. Drinks: Very expensive for SF, but not bad. 1. Devil Made Me Do It - standard fare - Grade: C - 2. Sugarbaby - Grade: A - For the Brandy cherry at the bottom! - Very sweet & makes for a good after dinner drink. Tastes like drinking Cherry Garcia ice cream. 3. Anderson Valley Boont Ale - draft - Grade: A+ Apps: We each went for the 2 app option just to try out a wide variety of plates. A mixed bag of quality. 1. Dosa quesadilla w/ chipotle cheddar, spiced potatoes, tomato chutney - This was good. Dosa is a little weird texture wise for a queso, but the potatoes made up for it. Grade: B 2. Kobe Beef Carpaccio, sesame oil, shaved Pecorino Pepato, sweet agave-ginger syrup - GF didn't care for all of the spiced mayo. I hate mayo but didn't mind it. Grade: A - 3. Coconut corn bisque, fresh curry leaves, corn & spicy cheddar wontons - Good but tasted like a standard corn bisque. - Grade: B 4. Naan pizza with goat cheese & roasted piquillo pepper - A ton of pizza here for 1 or 2 people. This one really lacks in direction though. Goat cheese makes it just taste sweet and sweet roasted peppers lack flavor...close, but really needs another topping to make it any good. Grade: C- Entrees: One basehit, one ground-out. 1. Portobello Mushroom Scaloppini, chile-lime butter, sauted Broccolini, nori polenta - Good idea, really really horrible execution! Fried Portobello would have been good on it's own, but the tomato sauce that it was drenched in was mixed with a sweet and sour that made it plain bad. GF could only eat 3 bites and gave up. Grade: F 2. Tandoor-Barbecued Pork Tenderloin Char Siu, porcini pad thai, spicy kim chee - I liked it. Nothing special, but tasted okay & the tenderloin was tender. Grade: B We didn't try any dessert. By this time we had plenty of to-go boxes. The one major miss didn't ruin the night since it was at Dine About price. If it was more cash I can't say I would be as positive today as I am. 4-stars since this was a good experience. I like what Prana is trying to do with the Paki-fusion thing...it makes for some different types of dishes. If you are on a budget stay away, but if you want to go out for a late night of clubbing and drinking this would probably be a good place to start...and finish if you like Temple SF's Djs.

I honestly wasn't expecting much because this is a restaurant/club, but I was pleasantly surprised.  The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice--all white decor, very trendy, dimly lit, and quiet enough to hear your dinner company talk.  I got the paneer ravioli, which I think may have been a little undercooked (minus one point because I like my ravioli squishy), but the caramelized onion & date naan pizza was great, and very creative.  I also tried some of the mushroom scaloppini and the sea bass, and those were equally awesome.  Also, dining here at 8:30pm on a Saturday is great, because you avoid the $20 cover, and finish dinner just in time to digest and start dancing!
