I've been to Minna quite a few times already and have always enjoyed myself. Of course, my motto for going out is always "its not where you go, its who you go with." And my friends are great. Ha. Anyway, the vibe of the place is great with its quasi-art gallery feel and eclectic decor (they have tree branches and a giant insects hanging from the ceiling). I also dig how the DJ table is suspended on wires coming down from the ceiling in the main room. Also, you don't need to get completely glitzed out just to party here either - most people are just in jeans and casual shirt/top. This past weekend the DJ was crackin in the main room and they had a great cover band doing old and new school funk, R&B, and soul in the smaller room. Other than the cover charge ($10) - Minna is a good spot for a chill and unpretentious night on the town.

So this is a slightly different take on Vertigo than most of the reviews here. I didn't go for the music. I didn't go for the dancing. I didn't go to hit on anyone or be a part of any scene. Instead, I stopped in early (8:30pm ish) on a weekday to just have a drink at the bar and relax a little. The bartender was extremely friendly and happy to chat with me a bit about iPhones, music, work and such. There were only a few people at the bar, and shortly, we were all talking. They had some great 80s throw back tunes playing, and drinks were surprisingly inexpensive. I didn't check it out, but was told there is a smoking patio. Nice feature. If you're a smoker, you don't need to stand out on the curb and awkwardly avoid eye contact with the higher than normal concentration of panhandlers on Polk. So. In short. If you're in the neighborhood, and looking for a bar to kick back, relax and meet some really nice folks, get there early and enjoy it as much as I did! Thanks, Vertigo!

Although they definitely trick you with the nice pictures, it's not so bad looking and when it's crowded, you wouldn't even notice the decor anyway. I've been here 3 times -- first time was for my birthday last year and that was fuuuuuuun! Complimentary bottle of champagne with bottle service and the supposed owner got me whatever drink I wanted, awesome. Second time sucked because there were maybe... 10 people there, totally lame. Went there this weekend, definitely fun times! So they have a pretty good track record so far. I'd say it's more of a mini-club than a lounge -- good place to go if you want to drink & dance and avoid the madness (waiting in ridiculous lines, finding your friends, etc.) that comes with larger clubs.
