As far as house music events go, there are so far so few so I gotta take what I can get! I only go on Mondays for Monday Night Social so I haven't been there the other nights & don't know if the security team are the same for every night. The pros are that MNS has some great headliners that come play. I also like the fact that the club is pretty big and there is some seating available to non-VIP. The smoking patio is a decent size but some people smoke inside. The club doesn't get all THAT overheated even though it always gets super packed. There are a lot of older Asian people that go and they're always a blast to hang out with. The older crowd that go there are the ones there to have a good time with even though I'm only 22 they don't try to creep on me. The cons are that the drinks are over priced for the amount of alcohol they don't put in. I'm pretty lightweight (like one mixed drink will get me super buzzed) but after a Long Island I wasn't feeling much. Llike many of the other reviewers I have been harassed and grabbed at -- but I think its because the club gets packed especially after 11PM. The younger guys especially have no respect for other peoples' personal spaces so be wary. They also don't know how to take "No" for an answer -- I don't want to dance with you, you've spilled an AMF all over your front! Still no excuse though. Security rarely does anything about girls being harassed, they just laugh at you. If you're there for the music, great! You will not be disappointed by MNS DJs. The crowd is so-so and the security team is shitty. Don't let them spoil a good night. (Easier said than done)

A handsome young man I know was celebrating his birthday here Saturday night. Even after nearly 17 years in SF, I had never entered Mayes so I was surprised to encounter a large space with a great, open feeling. I don't know what it looks like when it operates as a restaurant, but it obviously cleans up nicely when it goes into nightclub mode. The crowd was VERY young. Literally half my age. But since I'm old enough now to smile indulgently and find it almost endearing when twenty-somethings drink and get silly, I enjoyed my time there. My main reason for writing this review is to give a shout-out to the bartenders. Such nice guys! Very attentive even when their attention was being pulled in a dozen different directions. As crazy-packed as it got, I didn't even have to motion to them to order...each time they spied me through the drunken throng and read my lips as I mouthed my order. And I didn't pick up on a bit of crankiness or irritation...they also must have learned to grin and bear it when the kids start acting up. Sometimes it's just easier that way.

Mighty plays the kind of intelligent dance, electronica, downtempo, and nu nazz that only refined ears can truly appreciate. This is, by far, my favorite club in the city (it overtook The Mezzanine in terms of aural variety a while ago). Mighty is the antithesis of annoying places like Fluid Lounge, which to me represents everything that's wrong with a club. I saw some incredible performances here, e.g. Wax Taylor, DJ Krush, Rob Garza, Kraak and Smaak, Mr. Scruff, and The Herbalizer just to name a few. La creme de la creme, so to speak. Warning: This is not a place for everybody. If you think that electronic music is what 92.7 plays in heavy rotation, you will find this spot slightly too avant-garde. No idiotic dress codes are enforced. Crowd-wise, Mighty encourages creativity and self expression. For instance, during the Herbalizer's DJ Set last August a bunch of ultra-flexible guys started breakdancing to the beats in the middle of the dancefloor and became the main attraction. A show-within-the-show. Only at Mighty. Acustics are top notch. Cocktails are expensive but good. Bartenders are usually cool and attentive. You would like Mighty if you dig labels like K7!, Ninja Tune, and G-Stone. You would like Mighty if you read Mixmag, URB and Juxtapoz. You would like Mighty, period.
