I've only been here a few times for Popstarz on Friday nights, and I really enjoy it.  The DJ is pretty awesome and I appreciate a good mix of music when going out.  I don't necessarily want to listen to 45 minute chunks of techno and remixes before it's switched over blaringly to hip hop and Popstarz really blends it well. CONFETTI.  Ok, someone deserves a raise because nothing gets a room full of homos more excited than pyro, lasers or confetti.  I swear, there was a 12 minute chunk where confetti bursts exploded and it brought cute little heart felt smiles to all the guys who thought they were in their own personal episode of Queer as Folk. Boo to covers, but whatever.  If you sign up for the newsletter I think you get $5 before 10:30PM and the last time I went, I got a shit load of free passes. Think 21+ Tigerheat.

I went to Icon for the first time on a Thursday night.   My friends and I were next door at the Cat Club, but it was gettin kinda hot and crowded in there, so we decided to see what Icon was all about.  There was no cover charge, so that was cool.  There is a bar on one side of the lounge and a dance floor on the other; it's a pretty small place and it was dead.  Most of the people there were on the bar side and there was one obviously intoxicated girl dancing on the other side.  It kinda reminded me of a really bad high school dance. Anyway, my friends and I started dancing to the OK 90s hip-hop never heard before music that got progressively worse as the night went on.  Pretty soon the dance floor was full of people, mostly thanks to a bachelorette party that came in.  Once all the ladies were dancing, the men pounced like vultures.    What really ticked me off was something the DJ said.  It went something along the lines of...."Stick around, fellas and we'll keep your ladies'  panties wet."    Um...let me get something straight DJ Crappy, your music sucked and my panties were dry.  There was a freakin Sahara desert in my drawers, ok?.  My advice, do not go to this place on Thursday nights.  The crowd sucked and the music sucked.  But who knows, maybe this place is better on Fridays and Saturdays.  Thursdays?  BIG NO NO.

Crowded? Yes. Pricey? Yes. Loud? Yes. Does this bother me? Not at all. Halo is a vibrant club. The young professionals and college students crowding the dance floor are stylish and sociable, and the spinning music is exhilarating. It's a fantastic place to meet new people or just have fun with your friends. If you are feeling energetic and affable, get dressed up and come out to Halo!
