Unfortunately they are eliminating their happy hour specials soon, *sigh* but I was glad to go and get a taste of said specials! $5.00 for a $13.00 steak, and $3.00 for mussels . Not being a big read meat eater I reluctantly ordered the steak, but was quite pleased with the outcome, it came out tender and without a trace of gristly bits. The mussels simmered in a coconut lime broth were also pretty tasty, after all who can really complain about an $8.00 meal? Parking that early was also easy as they have their own lot, although a bit small. On my second visit I again got the tasty steak albeit for a $13 price tag, along with the heavenly spiced mac and cheese! They have been able to accommodate our rather large groups on 2 separate occasions and I definitely have to give them props for that!

I like Ella. I'm waiting for it to live up to its premise. Josh and Darin are absolutely the best and have such a great energy to be owners of nightlife joints. The decor is sexy, evoking the vibe of the speakeasy era, without it being a speakeasy type of venue. It's enough speakeasy places in NYC and thankfully, Ella doesn't give you the whole "let in through an unmarked door, dimly lit specialty cocktail" vibe. That era had speakeasy jump-offs, but it also had high energy places where the broads were flapper types and a bowtie was de rigeur (sp?)! I'm waiting to see how Ella fits into its skin, though it's still a great place to bring a broad (that era's vernacular) or friends for signature cocktails and surprise performances downstairs. The interior designer did a great job on the place!

i liked this place; saw joanna newsom there & it was big & roomy with 2 bars. upstairs were apparently places to sit, or you can stand on the main floor.
