First off - make reservations - they were just barely able to squeeze the 2 of us into a tiny table, and the sushi bar was booked. Granted, this was a Saturday night, but for some reason, I didn't anticipate the seating issue. Second - the food was spectacular, especially the marinated salmon roe. Service was quick, attentive, and helpful - especially important since we were sushi-ordering newbs. I've eaten plenty of sushi in my life, but I usually sit at the sushi bar and just let the chef go to town, which wasn't an option this time. We got a sashimi sampler platter and a nigiri sampler, which were wonderful - although I think they should warn you that there's wasabi hiding under the fish on the nigiri. I also had the miso soup, which was, suprisingly, just "meh". The hot sake was . . . hot sake. Nothing fancy - but I ordered the regular, and not the "premium", so that stuff might make you piss gold or something. It's pricey, for sure, but it's so good. Definitely a special occasion type place for people on a budget similar to mine. The decor is . . . Japanese, naturally. Lots of bamboo items, not super fancy, and not anywhere near as dark as I would have expected. Actually kinda brightly lit. Go, and enjoy!

A wise chinese man once said to me "Let's play golf at chelsea piers." So we did. Granted neither of us really play golf. And it was a frigid December day. But we worked up quite a sweat smacking those golf balls towards the hudson (echoes of seinfeld, anyone?)... I even managed to hit the ball collecting cart 3 times, for an overall success rate of about 2% -- hopefully I'll improve with more practice. The driving range stalls even have conduction heaters to keep you toasty warm. i was initially unhappy about paying $25 to hit a bunch of balls, but I had a REALLY fun time. (btw, if multiple people are going, you can save money by having one person rent all the golf clubs needed for the group rather than renting them individually) I've also been to chelsea piers for a birthday bowling party, and my college senior prom. Both events were fun. A great place to spend some time (and money) when you're looking for something fun to do during the day besides visiting museums.

I somehow ended up here on a Thursday night and thoroughly enjoyed it! I went in expecting a DJ who actually mixed records. Instead I found myself screaming every 3-4 minutes as the next song was dropped on me suddenly. One minute you're in the groove of Prince then like a freight train Run DMC hits ya and the floor begins to rap along. It was awesome. I'd definitely try to make it back on Thursday. The bouncer told me Friday and Saturdays weren't as fun. Cool place to end up at.
