I've heard such good things about this place. I think I just went on a bad night. It was chilly out and the 5 outdoor heaters were placed directly by 5 tables only. Wouldn't you disperse them evenly around so the other 50 tables could get a shot at some warmth? I really wanted to eat outside so I braved the cold. The seats were really uncomfortable and imprinted onto my flesh in the chilly night. The heaters made no difference because they did a bad job spreading them out. It was also too dark to even see the menu. I'm all for mood lighting but that makes it difficult to order. Anyway, service was good but the outside was dead so... We had a fresh guide coupon and decided to have dinner here. I wouldn't really recommend eating here. The tapas were pretty expensive, at about $15-25 a pop. And you need at least two to be full. I did love the hummus platter! I would go there again for that I think, but that's it. I don't even really remember what else we ordered. Oh the beet salad was ALL beets basically and nothing else. And I for one have never complained about too many beets. The bill was about $70 for four dishes and no drinks. Not worth it at all. If you like drinking I'd come here in warm day, I can see how that would be fun. But then again, doing anything on a warm day is amazing.

I have a feeling with a return visit or two my rating will gain a star. But the three stars here represent my first visit and first impression. I went here because I was waiting for the movie "Milk" to start at the Tara. I was solo, so I sat at the sushi bar. Here is my one big complaint - I didn't have one server waiting on me. I don't think the same person helped me twice. One took my order, another brought me a drink, another a salad, another the order, etc. Many rateclubsers have complimented the decor. I have to say it doesn't do much for me. It felt to... "Midtown". Trendy. Oh, and no prices on the menu? Don't be so full of yourself. Now, a big compliment. I'm a big sashimi fan. I like the simplicity of it. Just large slices of high-grade raw fish. A little soy and wassabi. I like Rain's presentation of their sashimi sampler. They put the fish in a wide short martini glass over ice and added sprigs of greens. It was quite possibly the finest sashimi I have ever tasted. I quite like Thai food too. I like the idea of Japanese and Thai food sharing time on a menu. I need to try some of Rain's Thai food sometime. This place will grow on me.

It gets crowded and there was a $15 cover, but it was blasting some great hip hop to get down to. The space is pretty cool - there are modern looking lamps hanging over the dance floor. The patrons were not that great - they claimed we took their spot on the dance floor even though they weren't dancing. It was a bit strange, but whatever, I don't waste energy on retarded people. We moved over and they continue to stand around guarding their spot. Not many places in SF play good hip hop, this is one of them, so I'll be back.
