confession: i had never been to circle. i heard of it, knew what it was and judged mercilessly because it seemed like a cheesy korean club with awful, awful people. and then my friend tricked me into going. at least we got to skip the line outside and got in right away without cover. the reality: i actually had a really fun time here! SHAME on me. but i did. the music was surprisingly not awful and we danced for about 2 hours straight, while fending off terrible korean guys whose idea of dancing is sneaking up behind you and trying to grind to your rhythm but they can't because... they have no rhythm. i shaved off two stars because 1. it is a pretty douchey crowd, and 2. it was SO packed. like, at certain times i couldn't even move. i wouldn't mind coming here again to dance once in awhile, but definitely not every weekend like some people i know. i'll be better prepared for the grinders next time.

The food here is so-so with the sushi being the best thing here. The decor is great - what else would you expect from a Steven Starr restaurant. My recent trip here for someones birthday was the worst thing ever. We made a reservation in advance and when we got here the hostess mentioned that are table was ready. We were okay with that, but as the time past (40 minutes) we still weren't seated. As a result we decided to leave since apparently reservations doesn't count. One thing that was interesting as soon as we left the hostess said "fine if that's you're prerogative." I thought that was rude I will definitely not go there anymore.

I always have a fabulous time at Shine. The owners are great. The staff is fun. The decor is glittery and comfy and there is a sexy looking bar. But the interior is not what sets Shine apart. For some reason, every time I've gone to Shine the atmosphere has bene fun. The crowd is energetic but not obnoxious. Something about Shine feels very welcoming, very inviting, which can be a nice break from the "I'm-more-VIP-than-thou" sentiments I feel at many a new club in SOMA. The highlight of this place is, hands down, the photobooth. I mean, doesn't everyone love taken drunken pictures in a teeny photo booth and seeing them on the internet the next day? You know you do.
