after anticipating a great meal, i have to say i was dissapointed by poor execution. the place is charming with its southern dive motif but failed to deliver on what it was aiming to do. the ideas were nice but the end product was mere satisfactory. the waffles lacked a butttery quality and the the lemonade soaked peaches failed to complement the dish effectively. The southern buttermilk fried checken breast was cumbersome and i was hoping for something that was closer to the classic Southern favorite. it would have been better to serve a solid chicken fried steak. the menu is still very inventive and the decor is fun and cute. it's still an experience in this city but the food is better in other places.

Giant (Vanguard) on Saturdays is really a hit or miss.  Basically, the DJ really makes the difference and you should ask around before going if you're not familiar with electronic music or you will be in for a long night.  Unless, your one of the many patrons in this place on "e" and at that point it really doesn't matter because everything will seem all good, five stars galore, and hugs for everyone. Alright, what is the deal with all the Asian parents coming to this club?  I don't hate on the slightly older crowd and I'm all into everyone having fun getting their groove on.  However, some of them are real e-tards and seems a bit creepy watching them feeling their moment.  I have a friend who will remain nameless who has a bad reputation of cougar hunting so it is a bit entertaining watching him like a kid at a candy store.  Although, I do cringe on some of the bad decisions he potentially can get himself into but we make sure to really give him a good ribbing about it. As I said, the DJ really makes the difference.  When a famous DJ rolls into town, there is a good mixed crowd with a good vibe.  Because of the hit or miss, I can only give it at most 3 stars. If you want a better night, try Sunday night for Deep because that is on a different level.

What do I really need to say about Cielo that hasn't already been said a thousand times?  This is the best place in town for house, techno, electro, and all forms of electronica.  Cielo was the beacon of hope for technophiles during the dark days after Twilo closed in 2001, through the hip-hop days of the early 00s.  Now that Techno and house is back in NYC, Cielo remains the place to go for top-notch DJs, a great vibe, and one of the best sound systems in the city. The best nights to come to Cielo are nights when big name DJs are playing, especially on Thursday nights.  Those are the nights that generally attract fans of the music who want to hear the DJ playing that night. Cielo's week-end nights are usually pretty missable, being populated mostly with scenesters, euro-trash, and B&T, which makes it a massive pick-up scene.  On better nights, the velvet rope is really easy to navigate, but on the sceney nights, you might be waiting a while. I'd like to see the drinks get a little more affordable ($12 for a G&T, $5 for a water!), and I'd like to see a little more discretion used at the door (both in terms of quality and quantity of people: send the scenesters up to Home maybe).  But that aside, Cielo is really the best place in the city for top-quality dance music.  When the music is good, the expensive prices and sometimes annoying crowd fade right into the background as you let the music take you over...
