View from the bar: Sometimes I travel on business alone and prefer to eat at the bar, chat with bartenders and other patrons rather than sit in the dining room alone. The Woodfire Grill has a ton of great reviews, but I'm not particularly impressed. I started with fried oysters and the barman seemed slightly miffed that I preferred the $8.00 dry white wine rather than the $20.50 "paired' Chardonnay.  The fried oyster was OK with nice smoky bacon flavor but, hey, fried oysters are not gourmet.  On the other hand, the duck breast entree with the paired French Gamay was a really good combination. Didn't have dessert or coffee.  Service was just OK - it seemed very cramped behind the bar and there was a noisy function behind my head in an alcove. All-in-all, if I were in that neck -of-the-woods with money to spend I'd go to Bone's down the street and get truly great bar attention and overall better food.

Wow! I have to be honest and say I am a frequent visitor of Fuego Spanish Grill...the staff is awesome, but that's a whole other review, but I never really thought much about just walking two steps to the right, or left if you're standing facing the bar, and checking out Sutra. I don't know why. It baffles me to this day because I love to dance and the crowd that makes their way in is not bad on the eyes either. Anyway with not so little coaxing from Tim, the bartender at Fuego, I have officially become a sort of loyal patron at Sutra. The bouncers are always friendly! I mean always. I'm sure they wouldn't be if you got out of line or rowdy, but they're the first people you see before you even make your way through the door so for them to be as polite as they are is a huge plus. I've met some rude bouncers and that is just a complete turn off right there. * I won't mention clubs but you know which clubs you are* It doesn't just stop at the bouncers though. The impecable and friendly service must be infectious for the employees because moving from the door girl to the bartenders and on to any staff you may meet while making your way through the club and on to the patio, everyone is on top of things. The music varies, but if anyone knows me they know I like to shake my booty or just bounce around like the energizer bunny (lol), and Sutra definitely serves it up huge on that note. The music can be top 40, house, or dance, but you're always moving and the vibe is always on point. The crowd is definitely a variety. You name the nationality...they're there. lol I love it!!! I'm sure like any place they have their off nights, but lets hope not because I like to keep the party going and when Friday comes I want to get it started or end my evening at Sutra.

if you're going to be a restaurant, be a restaurant. if you're going to be a bar, be a bar. if you're going to be a club, be a club. But goddamn don't try and do all three at the same time. The downstairs was fairly crowded, the upstairs fairly crowded, and the patio fairly crowded.  all of which made it just too much to be cool and chill. but too little to actually be the place to be. and outside was a smoke pit, if you're going to have a patio, it's better if it's not a smoke den. not to mention some sleazy clientele.  not a fan. There was something wrong with the bathrooms at the time.
