Third Floor Cafe is one of those places that I like to think is a fairly kept secret. While it's popular enough, the odd location and entrance make it still fairly subtle and unknown, in a much rather busy neighborhood. Third Floor Cafe is a Korean operated bar and restaurant, and should be treated so. You could have two completely different experiences coming to this place; either a bar experience or a chic restaurant outing. Like many, patrons tend to come on their special nights, where it's unlimited chicken, tonkatsu, beer, and wine. Like many, I too went on Tuesday, where they serve the 20 dollar special. The place gets extremely crowded, so expect to wait for seating, or come early. On the unlimited chicken nights, you have an option of two food choices, chicken or tonkatsu (japanese bread pork, deep fried), served with your choice of beer (limited selection for the special) and red or white wine. The chicken, while good, is not the best. The breading is usually extremely hot. Some pieces can be juicy, while most of it is usually fairly dry. I don't even know what part of the chicken I'm eating half the time. All I know is, they need to get to those who want to eat the chicken their chicken faster. The wait for food can sometimes get lengthy, whether it's because the kitchen is swamped or if they're saving every money with the slow service, I know my table waited a while for the second/third rounds of chicken. The tonkatsu is pretty standard, and depending on how busy the place is, can come out dry. They also give you some side dishes too during the night, such as potatoes and radishes. The ambiance of Third Floor Cafe is what you would expect from a place in the city. It hip, modern, colorful, and classy. The lounge like seats are amazingly comfortable, and there is enough room in between tables so that it's not crowded. I'm pretty sure this place was meant to be a studio apartment. The hard wood floors, the high ceilings and windows, this place is perfect for the night life. The view is also great, as the streets are usually busy throughout the night anyway. Third Floor Cafe offers a pretty cool special, and the prices are decent for other items on the menu. It's a good place to catch up with your friends and enjoy a good meal and beer.

I have had many good times at Velvet Room. This place is small, but still has an adequate amount of space for dancing. The decor is extremely well put together. The bartenders are fantastic but I could do without the go-go dancers who spend most of the night text messaging on their cell phones. I have always gone on Saturday nights and the DJ plays a good range of music. If you can afford to be sure to get a private booth area with bottle service.

The only reason I can think that we ever went here was because we were a bunch of underaged east bay suburbanites that knew no better. Honestly, their dress code is RIDICULOUS -- ACTUAL CLUBS in Vegas, LA, and other parts of SF aren't nearly as strict as they are. The food is nothing great, the music is what you'd hear on 94.9 -- ACTUALLY that's exactly what Jillian's is a "classy" Wild 94.9. LAME LAME LAME LAME. If you ever end up outside this place please proceed to drive back to the Easy Bay high school where you belong.
