Definitely a happenin' place ;) It was one of the best clubs I went to during the short stay at NYC. Went here on a Friday night w/ two girlfriends. Good music. Open bar until 11pm. Do keep in mind that some of the weekends is gay night.

I am surprised by some of the negative reviews that Amalia has received from other rateclubs users. I went to Amalia today for a business lunch with a couple colleagues. We all enjoyed it. I will likely go again and will recommend it to others as a place to go. The food was well prepared and the menu is one of those where you have difficulty deciding because there are many interesting (and good) alternatives. I also liked the space; it has a nice contemporary design that makes good use of exposed brick. The biggest selling point for Amalia is that the prices are in the "Moderate" range while there are several other restaurants in Manhattan that would charge more for the same types of dishes. I was not overwhelmed by the service but also was not disappointed by it. So I give it a thumbs up and ask all the other people who gave Amalia one or two stars if they want some cheese with their "whine"? If so, you can probably get it at Amalia. Give the place another shot. Nobody likes a complainer and no one cares that you didn't get the perfect margarita. 10 years ago, you were probably in college and drank piss beer (and you would have given the beer five stars).

Fun place with decent music. However, went on a Saturday and it was way too overcrowded, and the crowd wasn't dancing much the whole night. I think there are definitely better places to go, or go on a weekday.
