by Yvonne C. on The Triple Crown is a poppin new spot owned by infamous DJ M3, of the legendary Green Gorilla Lounge parties. Rich and I checked out his new spot last weekend. We were impressed! I really liked the fact that in spite of the fact that this is a smaller venue- it is wheelchair accessible! They've got hot and friendly door girls, swanky decor, crystal chandeliers, ample dance space, clean bathrooms, a well stocked bar, and bartenders who hook up proper drinks. This is one of my new favorite spots!
by Wilson Incarnato on This review is for the morning/daytime cafe only. +1 plenty of seats +1 for being the only place around with comfy chairs +1 decent coffee +1 good food -1 because EVERY SINGLE PERSON who works there is mind-blowingly slow. If there is one person in front of you, you will need to wait probably 5 minutes to order your coffee/food. If there are two or three people in line, well, it'll be a loooong time.* [see footnote] Edited to add: Today I got a toasted bagel and coffee, and the bagel was perfectly toasted (yay!), and the butter was served on the side (double yay! i am a control freak about my food!), and the coffee is slightly better than I remembered. Also, if you order your food to go, they serve the coffee in a real glass (less waste = good), AND they preheat the glass with hot water (absolutely essential, but a lot of places don't). However, they're still incredibly slow. And the cashier never speeds up or starts multitasking when a line starts to build up. *[see footnote] My bagel also needed salt, and I thought about asking for some, but decided against it. I like salty food and it was my fault for not asking for salt, so I'm not going to hold that against them. So, this is definitely a four-star type place - comfy, free internets, good food, decent coffee, friendly cashier, and tree-sloth-like pace of service. Which is fine, mostly, but I would never, ever, come in here if I was in a hurry. Edited again to add that I got a free refill on my coffee! I'm bumping this up to a mental 4.5 stars. the slow cashier guy is super-nice. *Footnote regarding slowness: okay, I realized that only about half of their slowness is the employees' fault. The espresso machine is SUPER slow, so it takes them a very long time to do anything involving it. Since I usually get my coffee to stay [hello, free internets!], it takes forever and a half for the espresso machine to make the hot water to heat up my cup. And I do appreciate the preheating of the cup. The employees? Still slow, and they should be multitasking (i.e., asking the next person in line if they can start something while the espresso machine is doing it's thing.) But at least part of it isn't their fault.
by Brianne K. on Sure, it's kind of a tourist trap, but I was quite impressed with the Starlight Room. The views are absolutely beautiful, and I loved the staff's fancy uniforms. We stopped by for a pre-dinner cocktail, and had a great time. Not sure what the crowd is like late night, but I thought it was a great spot to grab an early evening drink while you're in Union Square.
