this is a very ghetto place... one can tell right off by how sticky the floors are when you enter. Suite 181 sounds theoretically cool - 2 levels of dance floor with different music, a small outside courtyard for smokers or just for people to get some fresh air. i've been here twice and this place is in the ghetto Tenderloin. on the way to the club, someone dropped a glass bowl or vase out their 2nd floor window which shattered when it landed 10 feet in front of us on the sidewalk - and this seems very typical since no one else on the block even turned their attention to this. cover is usually 20$, this place gets so packed that you can't breath and barely walk. everyone is pushing each other... everyone looks so ghetto, it's hard to believe this is located in san francisco and not some little hick town in the country. if you're lucky, you can finally flag down the bartender's attention and get 1 round of drinks for the entire evening. i wouldn't come back even if there was no cover charge...

I dined at Parish last night with two friends. The first thing you notice is that the space is well-decorated and loud (like most Concetric restaurants). Be prepared to shout across your table. Onto the meal... Before we were seated, I ran back to the valet to retrieve something from the car. One of the valets was eating a Curried Egg Salad and raving about it. Good sign! We started with the Sunflower Salad and Parish Sausage Trio. The small salad was a slam dunk, with shave (marinated?) beets and a nice earthy flavor. The Parish Sausage Trio gets rotated regularly. Our Chicken Applewood Smoked Sausage was flavorful but a bit dry to me. The Chicken Fried Duck Confit is popular and I can see why. Duck fired and seasoned like chicken? Hard to go wrong there. We also had the Shrimp Burger (very high marks) and the Braised Beef Short Ribs (4 out of 5 stars for this dish). The highest marks went to the Blood Orange Tonics (we wanted a pitcher) and the Peach Bread Pudding. We cursed their goodness! I'll add Parish to my list of food options.

When I was a young...er...We would catch the drag show at the local gay bar on Saturday night and then dance he night away. Sunday brought hair-of-the-dog brunch. Starlight Room combines the two--old-fashioned drag with brunch and a little hair of the dog on Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon.
