I went to Voyeur once because a friend got a table. Before our friend who made the reservations arrived we waited in the general admission line, where the bouncers literally scream at you the entire time. I am sure those guys have to put up with a lot of obnoxiousness, but it genuinely seemed like they got off on letting you know how not important you are. Once our friend who made the reservations arrived we were moved to a shorter line. Better, but still a line. On a sidenote, it was seriously jarring to see how much the bouncer's tone changed once we were in the 'bottle service' line. Welcome to the Hollywood caste system...gag. Once inside, I have to say I had an amazing time! The partial nudity definitely added interest. It was more like performance art than pornography. I thought the service was great. I cannot imagine trying to get drinks through that crowd, but the girls really did manage!

Part dive, part frat-bar, part upper west side staple, Jake's Dilemma somehow manages to be awesome. Yes it'll be crowded. Yes, you may get beer spilled on you. Yes there are plenty of jagerbombs served. But you will have fun and you will come back. I often think the best bars don't need reasons for being good, you just know they are great because you keep stumbling back to them time and time again. Jake's Dilemma is one of these bars. By all indications it should blow. It should be just the same as it's neighbor (and co-owned?) bar the Gin Mill, fulfilling every single stereotype of a college frat bar dive. In fact it does fulfill all of these. But in a seemingly impossible way, Jake's Dilemma doesn't suck.

one word: pretentious. they made us wait in line for 15 minutes when there was nobody even in there! the bouncers were kind of creepy. we got inside and wanted to check out all 4 floors. we went over to the elevator and the lady inside told us that the fourth floor is VIP only. okay, we hung out at the bar on the main level for a while, and someone in our group REALLY wanted to get up to the fourth floor. i guess you want what you can't have..so he probably paid the bouncers or something, and we eventually got upstairs. i must say, the upstairs was pretty cool. the terrace overlooks hollywood. BUT... a couple of my friends came to the club and they would not let them upstairs, even thought the rest of our group was up there. LAME. so we made our way downstairs to the club part and took some shots. the shots were good but way overpriced, over $10 a shot. the only good thing about this place is that there's no cover. i would definitley think twice before you come here.
