by Chanel B. on I went to the Nuyorican Poets Cafe because I had heard many friends talk about it. I arrived about a half hour before the show was scheduled to start and the line to get in was down the block. The poetry was great and the crowd was very cool. When I first entered I was standing up all the way in the back and being short it was hard for me to see. There was an upstairs but I heard that was crowded too so I stayed in my little space next to the DJ booth. Eventually I snick past the crowd and found a seat right next to the stage and the poetry was great. If you are looking to hear some great poetry this is a great place to check out, just be careful if you are claustrophobic.
by Tori T. on I would have given them 5 stars if I had reviewed them immediately after my first experience- the Margherita pizza was bomb the first time and I kept thinking about it for months until I could get back down to Austin. Unfortunately, the second visit wasn't as dope as the first. It could have been the fact that I wasn't quite as sloshed as the first visit or the fact that the sweltering heat on the patio had me feeling lethargic. That being said, the pizza is pretty damned fantastic and they get 5 stars for vibe, decor, atmosphere, etc.
