by Jose Gropp on Been to a couple Michael Mina establishments and XIV was ok. Went for the tasting menu. The best part of the dining was the naan bread that comes in the beginning and the fish selections from the tasting menu. The two meat selections were totally unimpressive. The filet was quite tough and rather tasteless and the braised beef was a bit overcooked and under seasoned. The ambience was quite nice and lively, and the cocktails were great. I think if I didn't go in with the expectation of yet another phenomenal Michael Mina dining experience, I may have ended up giving it more stars.. Expectation too high walking in the door.
by Moshe Remson on Why are the bartenders so bad here? They're basically apathetic. Just the other night, the guy asked me what I wanted and just stood there checking out the scene and wiping down the counter. I repeated my drink request thinking he hadn't heard me and he just continued with his cleaning regiment. Hmm... ok. I'll wait. Then, he asked me for the 3rd time what I wanted to drink. Maybe the dude was having a bad day. Well, no tip for you. Oh well, at least the place and people are qool enough... Minna often has tons of community events and local musicians playing. Their Wednesday qool happy hour nights used to be a major highlight of my week.
