Okay.... 5 stars you ask. First off the atmosphere was excellent, fancy, cozy and super inviting. We went with a group of 8 of us, including 3 kids. Our server was one of the best I've had in a long time. She was patient, attentive, prompt, competent, courteous and nice! I thought as soon as we walked in that our bill was easily going to be 500 bucks... nope, not the case, the price was reasonable and the food was delicious. I had the surf and turf, and tried a little of everyone's. Everything was delicious! Apparently Mayes just reopened and it's a good thing, however the neighborhood isn't the best. My friend's car got broken into only a few blocks away. And that seems to be the trend of the neighborhood, so if you do come here, plan accordingly. Take everything of value out of your car... it put a damper on our evening, but the review isn't about the shady neighborhood, it's about the restaurant...

I went here with a group of friends last week for a birthday celebration and was utterly disappointed.. Service was absolutely horrible. Believe me, I'm not high maintenance at all and I have a tremendous respect for wait staff because of all they crap they have to put up with (moronic and demanding patrons), but the wait staff at this establishment needs some help. My friend ordered a beer and it took our server an hour to bring it (no exagerration here, I timed it)...My friend was wrapped up in conversation so he never mentioned it to our waitress, but when she finally did bring it, it was the wrong beer. She never even so much as said, "Hey, I'm sorry I forgot your beer, we're busy..." or hell, she could have made up something up, but nothing, nada, and when my friend said it's the wrong beer, she said, "Oh, well.." and walked off! I did not like the cocktail I ordered (something with the world FALL in the name and chocolate bitters in the reciple). It was an absolute mish mash of flavors and a girl in our party told me she wanted to warn me when I ordered it because she had the same sucky drink the week before...I wish she had because it sucked..Believe me, save yourself $10.00 and don't order it, and if you do and don't like, don't say I didn't warn you... I really wanted to like the ESSR. The space itself is nice, but the crappy drink coupled with the awful wait staff didn't do it for me. Granted, everyone's palette is different, and someone might like something here. I didn't order food, so I can't comment on that, and the girl who failed to warn me about my forgettable cocktail loved her croissant. A friend of mine had been here a couple of weeks before and even though there were empty seats at the bar and no one around in some sort of queue waiting for them, they refused to let her sit there because apparently they were reserved. What's up with that? I've never heard of such a thing. This place needs to get over itself...It has potential, but until they treat their customers a little bit better, I'll be frequenting many other places on the east side of town except this one...

The goal: to watch the game. The bonus: good food and great service. Sitting at the bar, we split a tuna burger and fries. Pretty much flawless. Looking forward to returning anytime to watch any game.
