Happy Hour / Martini Monday Review The shabby entrance hides a clean interior space that is a mash of modern and classic.  I love it! The $1 oysters were tasty and fresh.  The fries helped to soak up the pear martini's I used to wash down the oysters. Parking was easy and i didn't have to circle around at all.  I was a bit worried at first that it was so empty but happy we had the place all to ourselves.  I will come back soon to have a few cocktails and oysters next to the fire place.

It seems that the owners and operators of East Side Show Room think very highly of their establishment and very poorly of their customers. The decor is cute in the dining area, but is nothing memorable. The bar is small and the rack for the liquor bottles towers over it, overwhelming the place. I was considering what to order, and took a look at the menu. The first page is dedicated to explaining to you, in thick, pretentious marketing terms, how very special their custom made decor is, how very special the drinks are, how they have a very special chef who makes very special food "inspired by local flavors." How very high-tone! I should have seen this blatant display of laughable middle-brow snobbery as a warning to get the hell out and leave this place for the Californian immigrants. But I thought I might give one of their very special cocktails a try. That was a mistake. When our drinks finally came, some twenty minutes after we ordered, I was presented with a tiny, syrupy, weak little drink that would have been adored by an 18 year old who think Boone's Strawberry Hill is a good wine. I took two sips and no more. There went my nine dollars. My friends were smart and ordered beer. They had a couple of rounds, and each time there was a long wait between the ordering of the beer and the serving of the beer. Maybe East Side show Room is so sophisticated that they have decided to regulate the speed of their customers alcohol consumption so as to prevent them from becoming intoxicated and potentially un-hip. At some point in the middle of all this, something seems to have caught fire in the kitchen and the whole dining area was filled with a reeking smoke. We at one point asked the waitress if we could have a fifth chair for a friend who had just arrived, she brusquely said, "Yeah" and with a huff fetched a chair. Huffiness is not something I want when ordering overpriced drinks. When one time we did not order something when the waitress came around, she decided it was time to go and, quick as a whip, presented us with our check. Mind you, none of our drinks were delivered anywhere near this quickly. Though we had intended to stay, as our fifth friend had just arrived and had only had one drink, we decided that if the snobby, slow, rude waitress wanted us gone, we should get out. Then she never came back to pick up the credit card. I finally had to walk it over to her while she was near the bar. So, in summary, this place is wretched. It is not as cool as the people who run it seem to think it is, the drinks are weak, the service terrible, the decor dull, the appetizers were ok at best, and everything is overpriced, as if they could make the customers believe they were getting something special if they priced things at a premium. After leaving, we went to theThe Good Knight. It is in the same neighborhood and it has better cocktails, better food, WAY better service, and they aren't up their own asses with their own alleged hipness like the folks at East Side Show Room.

I live a few blocks away from Cover 3, and I go here at least once a week for happy hour (actually it's happy "night") on Mondays and/or Tuesdays. The waitresses know us by name and actually take time to have a conversation with us every time. The food is awesome, and if you hit happy hour, the prices aren't bad at all. I just hope that the neighborhood gets more places like this.
