Went there with 8 friends who were over visiting from the UK for my 30th birthday last Saturday (for the earlier showing and before heading to the abysmal Masion), and I can confidentially say that we were all blown away. It was the perfect mix of comedy, eroticism and circus style acts (especially loved the Japanese body-popping dude)...although didn't love quite so much the fact I had to get up on stage right at the start, although won't give away what I had to do as I'm sure they do it at other shows. Guess if you know your stuff when it comes to burlesque, or shows of this style, then it might less appealing, but for a newbie like myself, I cannot recommend it highly enough. Staff also great and prices not too bad...

Chocolate Chicken Wings Garnished with White Chocolate Shavings??? I'm not quite sure what this place is going for with the menu. It's a little confusing. Nothing particularly appealed to me on the dinner menu so i stuck to drinks only. I ordered a French Martini (since i was feeling somewhat girly tonight). Traditionally this drink is made with vodka, chambord, and pineapple, However, the bartender and waitress both argued with me that this drink is made with Hennessy in place of vodka. Ugh??! any bar that substitutes Hennessey in place of Vodka in a cocktail subconsciously gets labeled "ghetto" in my mind! I really like the decor and i hope that once this place is open for a little while longer it will be able to find it's own identity that isn't "ghetto". I'll definitely give it another shot since it is in my hood, but i won't be trying the chocolate chicken wings!!

Stopped by on a Friday night on what was apparently a graduation party event for the UC system. The place had a good sized crowd, but not obnoxiously so.   The main room is quite spacious w/ a long bar on your immediate left as you enter and a smaller bar near the dance floor.  There's also a third bar in a separate, smaller room off to the side. Sugar seemed to have quite a few spacious, comfortable private tables available.  Bottle service pricing was on par with anything else you'd find in Hollywood.  I liked the fact that the area near the front door and away from the dance floor seemed to be kept purposefully not as loud w/ the sound system--it made mingling w/ people and actually having a conversation w/ them so much easier.  Having a convo in a Hollywood club and not having to scream at the top of my lungs nor inhale smoke while sitting in an outdoor lounge was a very welcome breath of fresh air. Other pros: good sound system, friendly staff. Cons: parking next door is $20.  Do yourself a favor and go across the street where it's a more reasonable $10.  The pink mood lighting used throughout strikes me as a tad tacky if not garish.  Entering from a parking lot *is* weird.  I walked up and felt rather disoriented as there appeared to be no coherent line, just 100+ people crowded around a barricade in front of the door--the only indicators of which part of the crowd was which were tiny 8.5 x 11 pieces of paper taped up on the wall and written on in Sharpie.  The drinks were stiff, but the non-top shelf vodka used was particularly noxious.  I don't mind getting top shelf, but hey, if I don't have to, I don't have to.  At Sugar, I absolutely had to. I'd probably go again.  Had a good time, the layout of the club made it easy to mingle and meet new people.  Crowd was a pleasant ratio of guys to girls, although the meathead / Guido factor was fairly high.
