by Jose Hoegh on Who doesn't love Trudy's. After lots of cold days last week, I was not the only one who headed to the Trudy's porch to enjoy some sunshine. We didn't make it on the patio, but settled for the bar area (Am I just really old, or is it super loud down there?). If you think the Mexican Martini is too bitter like me, try the Pomegranate Margarita--it was delish. The Chicken Flaquities are always a hit, but I didn't so much like the Veggie Flaquities. No worries, a good margarita and some Trudy's queso is enough for me!
by Lazaro Yeakel on I've been a fan of mash-ups since I heard Party Ben's SixxMixx on Live 105 a few years back. This biweekly party at DNA Lounge is all about mash-ups, every 2nd and 4th Saturday. The house mash-up band, Smash-Up Derby, plays a set at each event. You'd think live mash-ups would be weird, but it's actually quite thrilling. The band put on special shows when I saw them - first time they had guest singers from the audience and played Twitter requests, second time they put on a Christmas show with special appearance by Lady GaGa...lookalike. The crowd is your typical Bay Area club mix, with maybe a little more alternative flavor and chill attitude thrown in. Most people come here to dance, and the dance floor gets packed. I expected everyone to be punk/goth/hipster, but that was not the case. Early comers get half off cover and possibly a mash-up cd - quite a good deal. Recalling which songs are being mashed up is loads of fun, and as far as I know this is the only regular mash-up event in the city.
by Nina T. on If I could give it a half star I would. This was definatly one of the whackest clubs I ever went to and was not worth it at all. I went there for the first time on two weekends ago and the cover was 20... After five mins of being there I already knew it wasn't worth it. So I trying to make the best of it, decided to get alcohol to. The bartenders there are douche bag and charges an arm and a leg for their drink and have the nerves to add the tip on your tab before you sign the tab. Oh and I guess they had an event going on that night so they closed off the other room for just VIPs... meaning you had to pay more to get in there as well... leaving who ever isn't able to go in there into a small square of a dance floor. all I can is WHACK WHACK WHACK.. HELLA WHACK!
