by Rena Liebross on I went here for a friend of a friend's bday party. The place looked somewhat enticing; it's dark, very exotic looking and it's a decent size (and also an upstairs portion). One can appreciate the decor for what it is. We got in for free (big plus). The music was a weird mixture of hip hop, alternative, pop and rock. I mean, the DJ really was bad; the music wasn't really flowing. The best part of the night was I had little bottles of Alize and Patron and handed them out to all my friends, since we were on a budget and refused to buy drinks, lol. The bouncer saw us, walked up to me and politely asked us to leave. Some of our friends were relieved to leave because they didn't like the place. But the bday girl was pissed because we were all getting kicked out. I felt horrible for that reason since I didn't want to ruin her evening. Otherwise, this place sucked with a CAPITAL S. SUCKED.

This place is an old house that's been transformed into a hip restaurant, just as it takes your grandmothers cooking and puts a modern twist on it. I'm not sure I can add much more to what others have written about this place other than to confirm it's quality. The one word of warning get reservations, the place fills up on weekends/Fridays and there's not much of a bar to wait at.
by Pam S. on I've been coming here for years.. and yet, I'm torn. I love the DJ line-ups they bring in and the powerful booming sound system + their renovations and spaces are looking great, but the crowd....eeeewwwwww...but I digress. Saw Sander here last weekend and it was pretty awesome fun... especially when I closed my eyes and ignored most of the people around me. Long lines for will call and guest list, shorter for those who are buying tickets at the door (cos' the cover at the door is about double what the will call crowd paid - kind of ridiculous). Bouncers are usually kind of a-hole-ish if you aren't (a) cuppeth running over (b) an L.A. "somebody" (c) in a group of 10 scantily clad girls (d) holding a $50 bill safely hidden in the palm of your hand. Basically, get there early and forget about coat check. It'll take forever. They have a nice back patio where everyone smokes+ dances to the supporting DJ (usually local/not so well known). It gets kind of crowded, but it's about 10x better ventilated than the drug den known as the main dance floor. When the dance floors empties it's druggies at around 3:30am, it's a good time to head down and get your dance on if you aren't already about to pass out. Great soundsystem that you can feel through the heels of your shoes. Gives you that second wind. Good music, but be prepared to put up with the screaming trannies, spin cycle old asian drug lord/junkies and their congregation of washed-out, beat up looking mistresses, and candy ravers. Of course there are also a bunch of normal people who are just there to have fun. Seek out that zone and stay there. p/s: Look for parking 2 blocks down Sunset for $8. Parking opposite the club is usually around $30.. ridiculous.
