Everybody's doing it. It's just they're all doing it at the same time. A friend and I went to Loca Luna on a whim a few weeks ago. I only suggested it because a lady at the beauty shop said it was something good to do when you want to spice up your normal routine. We show up at like 11:00 p.m. and I see a gaggle of people standing outside the door waiting for their cars. I almost thought it would be dead on the inside but I was so wrong. There was a boxing game going off so I guess that's why there were so many people. My homegirl and I had already been drinking so we immediately walked toward the dancefloor. There was a really nice live salsa band playing but unfortunately they were finishing their set. But it didn't matter since we hooked up with two adorable Dominican brothers and danced the night away with them. The floor was really packed and I constantly kept bumping into somebody or having some drunk person bump their way past us - very annoying! But again, at least I had a cute guy showing me some moves and the music was very lively with a mix of Salsa, Reggaeton and Merengue. It seems like the best time to go to Loca Luna is earlier for dinner so you can catch the band, sit down and relax and not worry so much about who's foot you're stepping on.

Cielo is my favorittttteee club in the city. I know that the crowd isn't always great and that the cover is annoying, but the music always ensures a good night of dancing for me. I've been on a night where the crowd has been beautiful, and the music just perfect (thank you Nicolas Matar). I've also been on another night where the crowd was hit-or-miss...but the music still good of course. I really feel like the people who come to Cielo come for the music, and I think that definitely helps weed out the creeps that you encounter at other places. I mean, this place has a legendary dj roster (Benny Benassi, anyone?)...so really, it's the place to come for house music. Also, the bouncer from Jamaica is a cool guy and comps you if he remembers you.

EDIT: I wrote this review before I heard that Heath Ledger tragically died. Out of respect, all references to Brokeback Mountain and Heath Ledger have been removed. ======== I'm telling you, gay men are the BEST mimics! Just look at the bars and clubs at our disposal, all of which play to some degree with prevailing stereotypes of masculinity. There's Truck, which is a parody of the white trash truck stop lifestyle. There's Jet, which is a parody of the Hotel Costes metrosexual martini-sipping, world-weary world traveler. There's The Mix, which is a parody of het sports bars. And of course there's Badlands, which is a parody of itself. Well The Cinch is all about cowpokes, pork 'n' beans, circling the wagons, and nasty cowboy sex. And you can ALSO find generous and free-flowing libations, two playstations, a smoking patio, gaysians galore, a group of awesome Rateclubers there for the DYGay, a crazed motherfucking tranny wielding a long pool cue, and a Happy Ending. For everyone.
