First, full disclosure: I work here. I'm going to comment mostly on the food (I've tried most everything in my time working there) and decor, seeing as how I don't need service when I dine! Genki was renovated last year. It is now smaller, but much cleaner and better arranged. The bamboo along the wall on the first floor is a nice touch. I just wish there was a way to have live bamboo. To start - the appetizers. I recommend the Shittake Batayaki, Mussels, and Shiso Escolar above the others. Oh, and something off the menu- the Tiger Shrimp. This is a special from before Genki closed. It is tiger shrimp, guacamole, and chili sauce over wonton chips. So, so good. On to the bowls. I think this is where Genki really shines. I'll admit they are better than Genki's sushi. My two favorites are the Nabeyaki Udon (traditional Japanese soup with shrimp, mushrooms, chicken, spinach, and an egg that cooks in the hot broth) and the Mixed Seafood with Cilantro (Grilled tuna, salmon, crab, calamari, shrimp, and julienne vegetables stir fried in cilantro fish sauce and served over somen noodles - to quote the menu). The "pick-your-own" bowls are big. I recommend splitting one with a friend/date and getting some sashimi to share if you go that route. My two favorites from the sushi rolls - the Spiderman roll and the Genki Tuna. Especially the Genki Tuna - it is tuna lightly seared on the outside, topped with Japanese mayo and sriracha, and served with ponzu sauce. Ask for it extra rare. Stick to the specials. If you want a California roll go to the seafood section at Publix! Finally, dessert. I highly recommend the Bananas Foster. Ask them to serve it with fried icecream. If you get regular icecream the icecream melts mighty quick. One more note - someone on here commented on the lack of Asian chefs. First, Genki doesn't claim to be authentic Japanese. If you look closely you'll notice it describes itself as "Japanese-Western fusion". And then second, it is very common for restaurants of all types to have hispanic chefs and cooks. They're the best - just ask Anthony Bourdain: "Who is the backbone of the American restaurant business?... If you're a chef, manager or owner, you know the answer: Mexicans. Ecuadorians. Salvadoran[s]..." If you dine during the week and a guy with glasses and a Genki t-shirt on brings your food to the table that is me. Say hello!

Yo Bob! I'm coming back fo sho. Thank you rateclubsers for recommending this place as a good hip hop all night bar. I cannot tell you what drinks cost because it was my birthday. Two of us tried to call to make reservations on friday but never got through and eventually gave up. Most of us showed up around 11 so there was no biggie getting in but plenty of BIGGIE inside. It was a blast, only one of my friends couldn't get in, I got wasted and danced with a chica.
