by stella d. on its got nice drinks and a nice main floor (i never bothered to go down or go up. i basically stayed at the bar and yapped with kenny.) i wish this place had food. although there is real watermelon in the ELLA cocktail, it doesnt equal food. its pricey, and if youre not the type to be in a "be seen place" stay away. i didnt have a problem getting in, considering i had a humongous backpack that day - must be because i came in at 830pm. i know i know, but the be seen places are not just me.
by Erik Hoglund on This place has an absolutely perfect view of the Hudson River. I mean it is actually on the Hudson, so I guess it can't have a bad one. Anyways, come here for some strong drinks at the tiki bar or a greasy and delicious burger. Not as great in the winter, so definitely check it out when the weather is warmer. Oh yeah and the restaurant is an actual lightship from the 1930s. It had sunk off the Chesapeake Bay, was salvaged, and brought to Chelsea Piers to become a dive bar. Pretty cool.
by Chris H. on True story: When I first checked out Martuni's several years ago, I was just a dumb country hick from the midwest and had absolutely no idea that this place was a gay bar until several years later, when it hit me like a ton of bricks. "Castro street is the gay district...hmm... my favorite cabaret bar in SF is on Castro street... WAIT, WHAT!? O SHI" Needless to say, i've been back several times after this revelation, simply for the enjoyment (in a totally heterosexual way) of the chill space, well poured martini's and the usually exceptional cabaret performances.
